About this listen

Deadly loose ends. Homicidal obsession. A mind-boggling crime locked behind lost memories....

Scotland DCI Harry McNeil feels uneasy about visiting his late father’s dementia-afflicted former colleague. But he’s stunned when the retired policeman’s daughter pulls him aside in the nursing home to offer nervous accusations and shocking photographs. And with the images displaying a murder victim from 20 years ago, McNeil fears the senile detective might be the real serial killer long thought dead and buried.

Unable to pry answers out of the confused senior, McNeil is alarmed to discover fresh bodies in both Glasgow and Edinburgh linked to the decades-old case. And with the slayings so intimately connected to him personally, McNeil believes it’s only a matter of time before he’s caught in the crosshairs, and he doesn’t know why.

Will McNeil expose a murderous hidden agenda before it costs him his life? Devil to Pay is the harrowing sixth book in the DCI Harry McNeil mystery series.

Not my favorite

Too much crowded into one story but still pretty good. The least believable plot in an otherwise very good series

Painful

Where to start. I WANT to like these books. I feel committed at this point. I keep getting the next one, hoping the storylines will get better.

They don’t.

Harry and Alex are possibly the most useless “detectives” ever to have been written. The emotional scenes are so ridiculous, you can’t help but roll your eyes.

Dunlap and Evans are the only ones actually investigating. And it’s becoming more and more clear that the attempt is to replicate Bob Hoon and Tyler from the JD Kirk books, and it’s just a sad imitation.

Angus King again saves this book. But the actual “detective” story is awful. If you’ve got 1/2 a brain, you’ll know what’s happening about 1/3 of the way in. Then there’s the usual introduction of 3-4 unnecessary characters in an attempt to throw you off. And then the ending is anticlimactic and sudden.

I promise, I am TRYING to like this series. It’s almost like every book is a new level of patience in a game I didn’t sign up for

I Love Crime Solving . . . Hate Horror!

I hated the graphic horror in this story. If the next story contains graphic horror, I will not continue purchasing stories in this series. The Narrator was, as usual, excellent. The graphic horror was unacceptable.
