About this listen

For ghost hunter Verity Long, "helping out a friend" can mean anything from passing the peas to solving a homicide. This time, it involves digging into a cold case that's been on ice since poodle skirts twirled and Elvis' hips shook the nation.

In 1956, Kitty Cunningham disappeared on the way to the Starlite Drive-In. Now the first real evidence of foul play is coming to light in the ghostly realm—and it links directly to a modern crime. Only a sleuth with one foot in the past can solve the mystery and make things right.

Armed with her wits and flanked by a wise-cracking gangster ghost, Verity explores the hidden side of 1950s Sugarland—from the haunting echoes of the abandoned drive-in to the dusty secrets of a long-forgotten mob vault. As she stirs spirits and secrets alike, she finds some corners of Sugarland’s history are darker and more dangerous than she ever imagined. Can Verity bring the truth to light, or will she be the next one to suffer death at the drive-in?

Tavia Gilbert rocks narration!

The narrator of this series -- Tavia Gilbert -- is absolutely fabulous. I get so caught up in her portrayal of characters that I forget she is just one woman producing so of these voices. Her male voices are just as credible as her female voices. It's amazing!

Absolutely Loved It

I love this series and this is a fantastic addition! I hope there are many more to come. And Tavia Gilbert is the one and only voice of Frankie the German! Even when I read the books, I can hear Frankie's dialogue in that voice.

I just love Frankie and Verity.

This book didn’t disappoint. The story was very good and kept me interested. I truly love this series, and I couldn’t wait for this one to be released. Frankie is by far one of my favorite characters in a book series. Verity and Frankie make a good team, and I love how they get along together like siblings. I really enjoyed Virginia’s part in this book; she has a wild side to her. Angie Fox is a wonderful author, and I hope she still has quite a few more Verity and Frankie novels left in her to write.

Perfect for upcoming spooky season!

I adore this series, I wish each book would come out even faster!!! Tavia Gilbert is one of the best narrators I’ve heard and she does an amazing job with this world! The writing is great and the characters are well fleshed out, even the ghosts lol.

(Spoilers) I really love Frankie and Molly so it was great that this one centered so much on them. I wish Ellis had been in it a bit more but I absolutely LOVE the evolution of Verity and Virginia’s relationship. It is something that I NEVER would have expected to see them getting along so well, let alone Virginia saving Verity’s life! It really shows that ppl can change if they really want to.

The story of Kitty was so sad and really kept me on the edge of my seat. Angie is very skilled at writing these mysteries. She always lays proper groundwork for who the killer/villain is and yet it is still never obvious. I’m glad Patrick didn’t betray Kitty! The bond between him and his father was also very surprising and touching. Verity’s kindness and compassion never ceases to amaze me.

I hope this series never ends. The possibilities are endless and it would make a wonderful sitcom or trilogy of movies. I think I am going to relisten to previous ones now that Halloween is upon us. I highly recommend this series to fans of mysteries and the supernatural!

Always fun

This had a hint of finality about it, I hope I’m wrong. As always, Verity gets into scrapes and brings us all along for the fun. She’s even joining forces with Ellis’s Mother, you’ll want to read this one just to find out how that works for her!

Long overdue cooperation!

I having been patiently awaiting the next book in this series. While it was not the best in the series, it was good to catch up with some of my favorite characters.
Well written and performed, as always.
