Publisher's summary

Great novel with a "superhero team", a guy based on Walt Disney, and a presidential candidate who runs on a "tough on crime" platform: the character owns a chain of franchise funeral parlors and is Dracula's descendant.

Supernatural election that stumble at the end

This is a strange tale. It opens with vampires, before going on to show a nation drowning in crime and the rise of vigilante justice to break the crime wave. As the Presidential election comes up so does a conspiracy to ensure that the 'bad guy' gets his man in the position. There is a trio of superheros put together by a Walt Disney-esque man and his recluse friend who are trying to save the nation.

There is a lot of moving parts to this story, and some of it is not fleshed out as well as you would hope. It also doesn't really come together at the end overly well. It is building to a climax and confrontation that just never really happens in the way it should.

There is some great things in here, and some interesting writing, but ultimately the book is less than the sum of it's parts.

Narration by Scott Glennon is really good. Glennon imparts into the text great emotion and inflection. He brings the characters off the page and make them come alive. Chapter one is about a character late to work and getting annoyed at everyone he has to deal with on his commute, and you can really feel the frustration of the character in Glennon's reading. It is really well done. A pleasure to listen to, keeping me more engaged then the text deserved.

Election Campaigns Ain't What They Used to Be

When a force of evil decides to manipulate the outcome of the upcoming American election, the heroes are forced to step in and set things right.
Raw, violent and definitely NSFW, The Deadly Election is a brilliantly told story of manipulation, subterfuge and evil dressed in good's clean, white suits. One of the most interesting books I've seen this year, with a surprise ending you won't see coming. A strange tale, but I loved it.

A Rollercoaster of a Book

This book was given to me for free at my request and I am providing this voluntary review.

Potential spoilers ahead.

Overall:

While I liked the plot of the book itself, I could not help but feel that the book was rushed to a conclusion. I found myself wanting to get to know the characters better, but the end climax crept up before I realized it was occurring. As a whole, the book seemed less about character building and more about the action (which is not necessarily a bad thing).

Performance:

The performance of the narrator was amazing. The high variance in voice between the different characters definitely helped overall reinforce the atmosphere of the book - gritty and violent.

Story:

Storywise, I was a little disappointed. For the protagonists especially - they interacted hardly at all. The plot was more than a little predictable (big bad, two organizations created by the big bad, three recruited protagonists with one assigned to each). At no point did I really feel like the protagonists were in actual danger. The plot 'twist' (if it was meant to be one) was more than a bit obvious by the end and cliche.

Just wasn't to my taste...

Unfortunately, this book just wasn't for me... I figured out right away what was going on, and then I got more and more bored as the story "progressed".  The bad guys proved how seriously bad they were, and the good guys got all their ducks in a row... and only when we finally got past the "big" reveal (seriously was anyone surprised?) did my interest peak as we found out how they got outta the mess...
Scott Glennon sounded like he was having a good time, but his skill at accents is, well, lacking, so much so that it sometimes pulled me right out of the story as I listened...

Mediocre story with excellent narration

It has the potential to be interesting story. The superhero team is made up of three people. These people rarely have interactions with each other and are recruited to focus on one of the organizations created by the presidential candidate. The story did not really explained their superpowers (except the girl), but maybe I needed to focus more? There is a lot of ass kicking, not a lot of devious plotting. There’s not a whole lot of plot. We learn a minimal amount about the different characters involved.

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another only to see if another book would be better.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator and I would listen to another. He used a great combination of voices, accents, and dialects. He did well bringing a story to life and making it an entertaining listen. I am an avid audio listener, so I found I preferred to listen to this on 1.25, it was too slow on normal for me.

There are no explicit sex scenes or excessive violence. There is swearing and derogatory terms but it is not extremely excessive.

Fun to Read

What can I say - This book is fun to read, great entertainment and in places very funny. Fast paced and full of "action".
The performance is 1st rate and made me wish the book was longer.
I recieved a free copy of this audiobook at my request and voluntarily leave this review.

I wish I'd read this book earlier and highly recommend it to anyone who want a lighthearted read/listen.

Whena master manipulator plots for the election

When a dark descendant of Dracula inherits his mantle, he decides that he will get himself elected as president and rule the nation. How’s he going to go about it? Easy, create a massive upsurge in crime and terror that are beyond the police ability to handle, then create a force of concerned citizens who take matters into their own hand and miraculously manage to catch and beat/Kill the perpetrators of the majority of these crimes. Be the candidate supported by this group. Who will stand against you? The man who is a poor imitation of Walt Disney and his master scientist and the trio of supers that he created. What a wild romp. Different type of election

A very different election. One in charge of a real life wonderland where your life changes and a guy controls the tech of wonderland. Another who looks to be wanting less crime but is he what he seems? A special force made to stop crime but are they fighting for what they think? Very interesting not usually a type of book I would read but the premise and the actual story kept me hooked.

it was just ok

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This book was hit and miss for me. On one hand, I liked the overall premise of the book and the narration was decent... but I kept finding myself losing interest in the story. The action scenes would get my interest and then I'd lose it right after... just wasn't as good as I had hoped.
