About this listen
Wes, finding himself between a rock and a hard place, had to make an impossible decision, one he's not sure he can forgive himself for. In his journey to always make the right choices, he risks his morals and the safety of those around him. Knowing exactly how he got there and unable to change his decisions, he struggles to keep going day by day.
Lance and Henry weren't working alone, and as more of the opposition group’s actions are showing them to be as evil and twisted as they first seemed. If that wasn’t enough, Wes is betrayed by a friend.
Not one for letting others remain enslaved, Wes’s group decides to go on the offensive. With time running out, and dark forces moving on his family, he has to become more than a simple moonshiner and occasional poacher. He has to survive what’s to be some of his darkest days and keep his humanity.
With Raider being the only sane one left, he must guide his human like he’s never had to before.

I wasn't going to read these books, I'm happy I did. Not only does it have a lot of prepping in it, it has everything else. No Zombies. Death, action, love, sadness. Very happy with this book

Excellent story broken into 5 parts.
This has been a really great series. Feels like an old fashioned TV show where each episode ends just as something happens and you have to wait for the next episode to find out who survived and who didn’t.
In that same respect, I get those who complain about this being only part of a book. This one actually felt short to me. I really enjoy a nice long novel in excess of 10 hours. These books could easily be combined into a book or two and be really good but the author (or someone) has chosen to break this into multiple shorter stories. It is easy to assume that this is done for profit as all of Audible’s books are 1 credit and therefore the same price unless you buy them for cash. That makes this 5 book series 5 credits instead of 1 credit for one story as this most certainly is just one story broken into 5 books. Even a good trilogy that tells a contiguous story through the three books is still three complete stories with natural beginning and ending points for each book.
This is definitely a good read but I would wait for the “Omnibus” edition and get them all at once.

So exciting
This is a great series and I am totally enthralled - addicted! Wes and his dog Raider, along with their friends gathered at the home-place farm are fighting the bad guys and there are a lot of bad guys.
To my disgust, every book is very short for one credit. Two or three books should have been combined into one book or made into a omnibus or box set. I am also disgusted that each book ends in a major cliffhanger. So aggravating. Mr. Craven, that is not a nice or smart tactic to put out 5 hour books with cliffhangers. That is a greedy tactic. Unfortunately I am hooked on the characters and the story so I keep buying the next one in this series, but I will NEVER start another series written by Mr. Craven because he has no respect for the listeners who purchase his books. I see that other comments indicate that other people are not pleased with these cheap tactics either and the author may lose much of his fan base because of it.
