Publisher's summary

The epic conclusion to the internationally best-selling Nevernight Chronicle series from New York Times best-selling author Jay Kristoff.

The greatest games in Godsgrave’s history have ended with the most audacious murders in the history of the Itreyan Republic. Mia Corvere, gladiatii and escaped slave and infamous assassin, is on the run. Pursued by Blades of the Red Church and soldiers of the Luminatii legion, she may never escape the City of Bridges and Bones alive. Her mentor Mercurio is now in the clutches of her enemies. Her own family wishes her dead. And her nemesis, Consul Julius Scaeva, stands but a breath from total dominance over the Republic.

But beneath the city, a dark secret awaits. Together with her lover Ashlinn, brother Jonnen, and a mysterious benefactor returned from beyond the veil of death, she must undertake a perilous journey across the Republic, seeking the final answer to the riddle of her life. Truedark approaches. Night is falling on the Republic for perhaps the final time. Can Mia survive in a world where even daylight must die?

New York Times and internationally best-selling author Jay Kristoff’s writing has been praised by critics and fans alike and has won many awards, including four Aurealis Awards, an ABIA, and David Gemmell Morningstar and Legend awards.

Critic reviews

The USA Today best seller!

"Kristoff effortlessly draws together multiple threads from the first two volumes and packs in plenty of wickedly sharp, beautifully choreographed, and gloriously bloody fight scenes while offering humor, heartbreak, and a few jaw-dropping surprises.... A poignant and exhilarating finale to a superb fantasy series." (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

"The stakes for our heroine feel higher than ever.... Fans will love the fast-paced, epic conclusion to this dark and bloody tale." (Kirkus Reviews)

"The twists and turns start early in this volume, and readers expecting wry humor and high body counts will not be disappointed.... Kristoff's characters are fully formed and jump off the page. The world building, borrowing its structure from Italian political history, remains as intricate and fascinating as it was in Nevernight (2016)." (Booklist)

Hands down a new all time favorite series for me!!

I've been waiting on the release of this book for about 18 months, and it was worth every single moment. Jay Kristoff is hands down one of my all time favorites because of this series. This was my first introduction with his work, and now I can't wait to read more.
I think like a lot of readers (or listeners), I'm always holding out for the book or series that's going to completely suck me in and I won't be able to put it down. This series is the epitome of that. It seems to have the perfect amount of everything. The perfect amount of violence, carnage, strategy, sex, twists, and my favorite SARCASM!!! When I say the "perfect amount", what I'm really saying is the author never added anything that wasn't necessary to further the story. There was no sex for the sole purpose of sex. No violence for the sake of violence. Every part of each book was to further the story. All surrounding a strong female heroine. I kept waiting for the down turn in the series. The moment where it's just not as good as it was in the beginning, usually somewhere in the second book, but there was no down turn in this series. Each book was amazing in itself as well as in the series. Each time I thought I had it all figured out, we took a hard left and I was shocked in the best way. Every. Time.
The other piece that HAS to be noted here is the narrator. Holter Graham is epically amazing. Epically. His pacing and inflection made this story even more than it would have been had I read it on my own. The last 3 minutes of the 3rd book, I had to rewind it 4 times and listen again. I wanted to both cry and stand to start the slow clapping for an ovation. Bravo!! Bravo all the way around!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you for this!!!!

Excellent

This is an excellent ending to a really great series.
My preferred genre is fantasy that involves Kings, queens... and especially assassins. I think it has to do with the romance of the olden days, but the excitement of the action. Either way, this book = perfection.
Are there a few ends that got tied up into a too-neat bow... perhaps.
Do we ever fully explore her shadow/darkness and dive into the complete knowledge of it... not like I wished we would!
And does the main character end up staring off into the sunset... well...yah.
But the main character is still young! And surely after all that excitement in her life... down the road she'll go on more wild (and deadly) adventures! (Ahem, Kay Kristoff or his management team reading this... can you make that happen?)
Amazing series - purchase it and live in the Nevernight for a while.

Amazing story and well told

I love these books! Story is amazing and unique. Narrator stepped it up in this 3rd book. The writer writes the story in such a witty, proactive, sometimes smutty and sometimes snarky way. If you like bloody and sexy, read all 3 of the books in this series.

The end

Well I am rather disappointed with the ending. It seems it was more about reiterating the past sayings. I guess I was just upset about Tric He deserved more

I love this series

amazing series and amazing narrator.
my only complaint is that pronounciation for certain names seems to have changed slightly for this book and I'm not sure why.

This book has much muchiness!

This book does a lot of things and all of them really well: it is both hilarious and seriously horrifying all at the same time. It is both a fantastic conclusion to the main story and the best retconn of prior stories I've ever seen. The story can be touching at times while at the same time being disgusting and callous. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of it!

FANTASTIC END TO THE TRILOGY

Really tied all stories together. Loved this book. Felt like the narrator finally got into a perfect cadence for this one.

I’m Glad I Was A Late Comer

I’m so glad that I was a late comer to the story., because I would’ve been too anxious to have to wait for all three books to be completed. When I first started listing I thought oh no another terrible book! I don’t like high pitch of the narrator’s voice and why in the heck is the author adding in all these personal notes. Nevertheless, decided to keep listening and give it a true chance and boy am I glad that I did! All three stories were excellent, entertaining and unexpected events throughout. I even came to love the narrator, the footnotes and yes the authors personal injections 😀.
