About this listen
Widely respected and admired, Philip Fisher is among the most influential investors of all time. His investment philosophies, introduced almost 40 years ago, are not only studied and applied by today's financiers and investors, but are also regarded by many as gospel. This book is invaluable for investors and has been since it was first published in 1958. This updated edition retains the investment wisdom of the original edition and includes the perspectives of the author's son Ken Fisher, an investment guru in his own right, in an expanded preface and introduction.

The Money Formula takes you inside the engine room of the global economy to explore the little-understood world of quantitative finance, and show how the future of our economy rests on the backs of this all-but-impenetrable industry. Written not from a post-crisis perspective - but from a preventative point of view - this book traces the development of financial derivatives from bonds to credit default swaps, and shows how mathematical formulas went beyond pricing to expand their use to the point where they dwarfed the real economy.

This edition expands its coverage to include the bond market, so that the book now addresses all of the major investment markets.

The concept of quality is familiar. People make judgments about it every day. Yet articulating a clear definition of quality is challenging. The best companies often appear to be characterized by an ineffable something, much like that of people who seem graced by a lucky gene. For reasons that are not always evident, some do the right things with better results than average. They may not appear to be savvier acquirers, more adept marketers, or bolder pioneers, yet they integrate new businesses better, launch products more successfully, and open new markets with fewer mishaps.

At another level, it summarizes an overall mindset for successfully investing in today's fast-paced stock market, a mindset that depends on a commitment to learning, adapting, and facing down irrelevant noise. This is not a method book. It is a thinking book. Warren Buffett: Inside the Ultimate Money Mind explains the philosophies of self-reliance, stoicism, rationalism, and pragmatism and their contributions to making intelligent investment decisions.

Not worth the hype
For all the hype, this book is not in the same league as Graham's "The Intelligent Investor". What struck me about this comparison is that where Graham's book is ground breaking and innovative, this one contains sparse nuggets of insight.
If this book is on your bucket list, tick it off; but do not expect greatness.

One of Buffett's two favorite books
Phil Phisher is amazing and the content of this book is almost timeless (perhaps besides some of the scuttlebutt phrasing). The two complaints I have are about his son's intro which feels like he has a bone to pick with his dad, and the narrator who is overly articulate and constantly emphasizing sentences poorly.

This has the feel as if the authors goal was to produce a many, many hours long audio book to increase the buyers perceived value. He takes forever to get to the point, if there even was one. This was a money grab based on copying the title of his father’s popular and only a few hours long book.
