About this listen

Gilly must face the most evil villain of all in the second installment of this twisted fairy tale series.

Gilly's gone from zero to hero at Fairy Tale Reform School, but it's still not smooth sailing. Her new villainous professor is the infamous pirate Blackbeard, and her newfound cool factor might be making her act a bit more royal than she'd like to admit. When The Wicked One, aka Sleeping Beauty's nemesis, breaks the Evil Queen out of the dungeon, Gilly realizes the kingdom is still far from safe. Gilly and her friends must figure out who is trading secrets in the castle and how to stop Alva from terrorizing Enchantasia - before she comes after the ones Gilly loves the most.

Great!!!!!!!!!

I really love the story, the characters, and the way it is told. It’s just the only thing I don’t like are the HEAS, other than that A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!

I loved the book

Best book ever ;-) love the adventure.

The above is my 11year old daughters review. We listened to both books together, she says couldn't focus in school because she was so excited to finish the book. I had to find out how it ended, too! Love both books, can't wait for the next one!!!!!

for fairy tale lovers

If you want more like Colfer's Land of Tales, etc and if you aren't ready to tackle Harry's wizard-school stories, this and it's following stories are a good rainy afternoon listen. The weird school stories sub-genre does seem popular these days, as are heroes whose flaws make the rest of us feel good. But did Gilly really need to be so insensitive towards her roommate? At least after Harry achieved fame, he was able to resist Prof. Lockhart's charms. And Will Stronghold got the message about Sidekicks much more easily (Sky High).

Take what you want, choose your own destiny, don’t let institutions like school define you - themes that pop up repeatedly, but may or may not be the intended take-away message. One of my favorite lines is "Misunderstood is just code for prone to be bad." Intended interpretation?

I do wish that writers, when cashing in on notoriety, there would be some connection to historical roots. In this case, gargoyles (other books abuse alchemy, for example). Also, I wish that the innocent victims would get more sympathy - eg apple, patty cake and pottery vendors as the ubiquitous innocent and unappreciated victims of chase scenes and theft.

Riviting

It had a perfect balance of action, suspense and a few heart wrenching moments. Also the characters were loveable and you could easily relate to some problems.

Enjoyable follow up to Flunked

I finally found the second audiobook for Fairy Tale Reform School. It has been a while since I listened to the first book....for a refresh check out the review here. The second installment follows the aftermath of Gilly's new found fame. After having stopped evil in the first installment, her father is getting more orders for shoes, the scrolls discuss how she is a hero, and many of her classmates feel it is going to her head...which it kind of is.
Gilly is still hell bent that Jocelyn is trying to help her sister Harlowe to help Alva. Gilly discovers a mole in the school is providing information to Alva to help Alva in her grand scheme. Gilly decides, alone, to go undercover with the club Royal Ladies in Waiting to see if she can find the mole. After joining RLW, Gilly turned into a sort of monster and alienated her group of friends. After a long chat with her father during family visitation day, she realized she cant do things on her own, and that it is dangerous to think she can. If Gilly feels she has to stop Alva, she needs her friends. So everyone makes up and proceed forward together.

There are a lot of unexpected twists and turns in the book that keeps the listener on their toes. I really enjoyed it. It is a quick listen/read. I am very happy that I found the sequel. I had looked for it at the library several times with no luck. I am looking forward to the next installment and catching up in time for book 5 to come out. I was also happy to learn that there is a spin off series for the Royal Academy Rebels.

The age group the book is geared towards would enjoy the story. I think adults could also enjoy listening if they give it a go. I really like it. The narrator is really good and I enjoy listening to her. I firmly believe Narrators make or break a story, and Condon really elevates the delivery of the story. I do not know if I would enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoy listening, that is how good she is.
