Story
A book that left burn marks on night tables across continents, Lovers and Gamblers has become a Collins classic. It features two of her most memorable characters: Al King, the rock-and-roll super-stud who is everything any sex-crazed groupie ever imagined her hero to be; and Dallas, the beauty queen whose sky-high ambitions stem from a sordid secret - the type that tabloids tingle to tell. Together, they're on a wild ride from London to New York, from Hollywood to Rio and the steaming jungles of the Amazon - where all their dreams and nightmares are about to come true.

Story
Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family."

Story
Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids. Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job.

Great story but not for delicate people.
That’s just how it was. If you’re only interested in a story where everyone is treated fairly, no one is misunderstood, history is changed and sterilized to meet today’s standards, everyone gets a medal for just being alive, then this isn’t the book for you. Bad behavior, language and misdeeds are laid bare without apology but certainly not glorified. It’s just raw I read it in high school back in the 90’s and I went back for more now in my late 40’s and the only disappointing part about it is that it’s abridged and JC is not the best narrator LOL

Audible censors
Love the uncensored book. Audible took out a ton of sections. Should offer both versions. Too bad.

Uabridge
I’d love to hear the unabridged versions of both books. Lucky and Chances. Both are favorites.

They took out too much in abridgment
It’s annoying that they censor the book, but even more so that it causes you to not even know a character they are talking about.

Dank and dreary, drags too
I'm glad it wasn't any longer; I couldn't have taken any more! Depression, depression, depression one horrible thing after another to the protagonists; I hated this book!! Okay and then the narration; there must be good authors out there who are good narrators but this isn't one of them. I would prefer to give this no stars but that's not a choice. You might like it who knows? If you don't it's only a couple of hours wasted, but that was still too many for me!

NOT THE WHOLE BOOK!!
I’ve read this book a few times. Very disappointed that the audible cut out quite a bit. It’s read by Jackie Collins but there are portions of it that are in there at all. I don’t know if it was edited for a time or they thought it was inappropriate etc. Extremely disappointed.
