Publisher's summary

Welcome to Torte - a friendly, small-town family bake shop where the oven is heating up as high as the body count....

Jules Capshaw is still chewing over her husband Carlos’s return to Ashland, Oregon. Could there be too many cooks in the kitchen? Whatever is stirring between those two will have to wait. Despite the Oregon Shakespeare Festival being dark for the winter, the bakeshop is bustling, the dough is rolling, and there’s no rest for the weary...especially when murder is thrown into the mix.

When Mindy Nolan, the owner of a new restaurant in town, turns up dead, the batter at hand thickens. Jules knows that there was bad blood between Mindy and others in town, and tracking down the killer could prove to be an unwelcome treat. And to top it all off, there’s Carlos, who is pleading - with those delicious dark eyes and sexy Spanish accent - for Jules to take him back. Is home where the heart is or will she make a fresh start...and risk getting burned?

Narrator is different the first books

Bummer... I really liked the narrator of the first 3 books. This one just isn't cutting it for me. I truly have a hard time listening to a series when they change the narrator after a few books. The author is great... just not impressed with the narrator.

Great story. Narration so-so.

I listened at 1.2 speed to help with the narration. I am not a fan when narrators switch in a series. Especially when the voices are so vastly different.

chapters were not in sync-24 & 25 were at the end

I did notice that Jules was talking about the upcoming chocolate festival and then the story was in a totally different place. The reason showed up at the end after the recipes that are usually at the end of her books. Chapters 24 & 25 had been added at the end as chapters 36 & 37. Someone needs to fix that and how can I get a corrected copy.

Disappointing

The prior books in this series were a light-hearted mystery romp. Unfortunately, this is an example of the difference a good or so-so narrator can make with a novel. The prior books in this series were narrated by Dina Pearlman, who did a wonderful job. I am sorry to report that Marietta DePrima's narration of this book simply did not measure up.

One other criticism is that one of the chapters that belonged in the middle showed up as the final chapter.
