About this listen

Johanna Lindsey sweeps listeners into the privileged world of English aristocrats and the exotic haunts of Caribbean treasure hunters in a novel of passion and romantic adventure featuring the incomparable Malorys -- a family of dashing rogues, spirited ladies, and rakehell adventurers. Now American rogue Drew Anderson meets his match when his brother-in-law James Malory introduces the daughter of a pirate to London society.

Devastated by her mother's death, eighteen-year-old Gabrielle Brooks sets sail from England to a Caribbean island in search of her estranged father. But instead of encountering a distinguished merchant ship's captain, she discovers her father has become a pirate! After spending three wonderful years sailing and treasure hunting with him, Gabrielle is dismayed when her father decides she must return to London to find a proper husband. His old friend James Malory will sponsor her in polite society.

In London, Gabrielle is escorted to balls and parties by James Malory's wife, Georgina, and her brother, Drew Anderson, a dashing American sea captain who is visiting. Though drawn to Gabrielle's fiery beauty, Drew, a fun-loving rogue, wants nothing to do with a young woman hunting for a husband. Incensed by Drew's indifference, Gabrielle is determined to win his attentions. But when Drew embroils her in a scandal the night before he's to sail back to America, Gabrielle vows revenge. Enlisting the help of her father's pirate cronies, Gabrielle commandeers Drew's ship and takes him prisoner. But as passion runs high on their sea voyage, it becomes difficult to tell who is truly the captor and who is the captive.

With the humor, lovable characters, and romantic intensity that have distinguished Johanna Lindsey's seven previous Malory novels and placed them in the ranks of the best-loved and most widely read romantic novels of our time, Captive of My Desires tells a passionate love story that will capture your heart and never let go....

Nice and relaxing

Nice Relaxing read. Only too much talk about the man' s other wemen. Quite disgusting to read that main character was sleeping around. Just imagine all germs he might carry around.

What!

I disagree with earlier reviews! There was no rape. Gabriella had planned to place Drew in a sexual frenzy. She was dreaming, not sedated, she chose not to open her eyes. She didn’t want to wake up and stop the sex. She submitted to Drew who was drawn to her by her earlier performance. Excellent story with wonderful performance.

Captured!

My total attention was captured by this book!
I love this series. While it's predictable it's also fun.

NARRATOR: The horrendous laugh... "ha ha ha" (pronounced like " ho ho ho") was SO AWFUL! Not as bad here as on some recordings but still BAD! And it's a shame since the performance was otherwise very good. Yet even a excellent narrative can't make up for that 'awful, make me cringe, teeth on a chalkboard, wake me out of the story, want to scream' LAUGH!

HEAT FACTOR: Steamy!

Captivating

Although a bit unbelievable in places, this book kept me up late listening to the adventure and sensual innuendos. Quite fun listening and good for the libido.

You will smile when read this book

One more book from the Malory serie, that i just love, and can read again and again.
The narrator makes the characters alive, and it's a delight listening to her.
Again worth your time, money or Credit 👍

Narrator using such a gravelly voice making characters sound like ancient old crones.

Good story but narrator when doing certain voices not great. Could have been done with more age appropriate and realistic voices.

Enjoying series. Except red flag on cringe factor of how heroes “get their way.”

So by now, the basic structure of this series has become familiar. I often get characters mixed up a bit but not a problem.
The biggest problem I have with these stories is the slightly “rapey” feel to the first “intimacies”. Or at least inappropriate pressure.
What’s sad is these hero characters are all awesome and interesting until “that scene.”
Ok, so the heroine is never upset afterwards, as this is fiction and most women would file charges probably, but I guess author seems to think heroine’s rhapsody exonerates the behavior.
But it doesn’t. It’s been in enough of the stories to finally disturb me.
In this one, heroine thinks she’s “dreaming.” Hero didn’t believe she was a virgin, but how does that make it right to jump on someone while they are asleep? In the last book, I loved the characters, but the hero takes advantage of the heroine’s drunken state after her first ball. She asks if he got her drunk on purpose but he says no, she drank too much champagne on her own. Still a terrible excuse especially when heroine had told him flatly over and over she didn’t want to have sex with him. So I’m not sure I want to continue series.
