About this listen

Maximilian Cale, the Duke of Lyons, long ago buried his grief for his missing elder brother, Peter, who was presumed dead after being kidnapped. When a mysterious note arrives from Tristan Bonnaud asserting that the Duke's brother is alive, it leads Max straight to the winsome Lisette Bonnaud, illegitimate daughter of a viscount and Tristan's sister.

Soon he and Lisette are traveling to Paris posing as husband and wife, in search of Tristan, who has disappeared. And the longer he spends with Lisette, the easier it is for Max to see that the line between dukedom and desire is easier to cross than he imagined....

Great story, great narration

I'm reading this series out of order but so loved What the Duke Desires. I laughed out loud and loved the chemistry and honesty between the main characters. I get tired of prolonged misunderstandings and this book dealt with them in a touching way.

Pleasantly Suprised

I'm not sure why. .but I went into this book expecting it not to be that good. I was wrong! This book had a good plot, with a mystery, and nicely blossoming romance.

I liked both Lisette and Max and thought they were a good match. There was good dialogue between them. I did think Max was overly "Dukel" (if that's the correct spelling) but that may have been the narrator's influence also.

The narration was also good. I felt it was well preformed and not just "read". I am not a big fan of French voices done by most narrators, but in this case they were pretty good.

I would rate it R...but not the most descriptive love scenes I've ever listened to....but not too tame either.

I am really looking forward to the whole series. I think it is worth a credit and definitely worth it if you ever catch it on sale (which may be why I had it in my library in the first place)

Unpredictable Love Story Adventure...

This is not a typical love story of a poor girl who sits around and then all of a sudden lands a Duke husband. This is an adventure story where a poor girl wins the Duke husband with her wit and brave character as they go on an adventure to find her brother Tristan and the Duke's brother Peter. I enjoyed this story from start to finish and could hardly put my headphones down. The character Lizette is an outspoken young lady who isn't afraid to speak her mind. I found that very enjoyable since for the historical time, women are often portrayed as weak, shy, or intimidated by man's rank or attitude but not Lizette. From the start she's smart and stands up for herself and her brothers' reputation to a Duke and slowly wins his affections. Well worth the credit and the narration is excellent.

A REGENCY ROMANCE WITH A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING!

I really enjoyed the platter of "every kind of delicious" that this book delivered. There is a great plot that becomes unraveled very nicely. The backdrop of complicated brother-relationships for both the hero, Maximilian Cale, the Duke of Lyons and the beautiful heroine, Lisette Bonnaud was very cleverly developed. The romance was like a winding road leading to a blissful ending that was thoroughly enjoyable at every stage of the relationship. There is mystery, intrigue, travels under aliases, passion, and of course a love that is strong enough to fight the fear of the future. The narrator, Corrie James, was very good. I liked the slight French accent she used for the heroine and her male voices were equally well done. This is a regency novel that is sure to be satisfying to anyone seeking a romantic indulgence.

This had a nice twist with travel, adventures, mystery, romance and heat. More R rated than PG13

Win for me!

Yes, I absolutely enjoyed this book. It was one in which the heroine was not the prim and proper tonnish female, however had all the decorous behavior of a lady. And the hero, who IS a tonnish male, didn't feel as though he was horribly above the rest of the world. The two meet and even though they are both suspicious of each other, they both realize that they are actually pretty good people. I enjoyed how the story didn't have a bunch of tumulutous angst, but was more of a learning about who each other, and themselves I suppose, were.
The supporting characters were all wonderful and I would love to see a story for each one!!

The narrator was new to me and I enjoyed her rendition. However, there were points in which it sounded like her mouth was full of spit, but that's probably my own sensory issues. lol. I would definitely listen to her again.

I got this book on sale for $3.10 and it was absolutely 100% worth that. Would it have been worth a whole credit? I am unsure. I am vverrryyy picky on what I spend a whole credit on, so I would not have purchased this other than on sale.

DELICIOUS - A REGENCY QUEST WITH DANGER & LOVE

For those fellow listeners out there who know SJ's work then you know what you're going to get from her historical romances - but if you haven't heard of her before then this book is just why she's an auto download and a non-stop listen for me.

This is the story of Max and Lisette, two very likeable characters who have instant chemistry and a nice slow building romance ensues as they embark on an adventure to solve mysteries and finally get some hard won but maybe unwanted answers and along the way they encounter some fascinating characters that are villainous, charming, intriguing or just plain nice. As the truth and lies begin to unfold so too does the blossoming romance and by the end of their quest they've laughed, cried, lost much but they have also found love.

Worth a credit? Yes, and I'm looking forward to spending more on the next in the series.

A fun story with an excellent narrator

Any additional comments?

This was my first Sabrina Jeffries book as well as my first time to hear narrator Corrie James, and the experience was most enjoyable. The heroine is feisty but not irrational, and the hero is appropriately "dukely." Part of the story is a road trip to France, traveling as a middle-class married couple, and it's fun. The mystery was well done and kept me guessing. The entire plot takes place over just a few days, however, and the duke's devotion to his lady happened way too quickly.

Corrie James did an excellent job handling male and female voices as well as British and French accents. For Lisette, born and raised in England to a French mother, she did just the right mix of accents. I will definitely be on the lookout for more books narrated by her, especially the next book in this series.
