About this listen

The CHMM Exam Essential Practice by Farcas and Cena is, as the name implies, an essential set of questions for the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager exam. This audiobook is well laid out in 14 sections. It draws the listener in, which certainly assists with the increased retention of the amount of material that has to be covered. The questions are well introduced with a short narrative before introducing the pertinent equations and solution to the over 450 examples of essential questions. The audiobook serves as a formidable preparation for the CHMM exam and a good review of basic principles, a reference for many of the day-to-day technical issues confronting the practicing worker’s safety, and a guide for raising awareness of potential problems for which alert action is required. The authors bring a breadth of experience and insight into the issues handled in the text. They bring context to the basic principles to be highlighted by the examples of the questions and their solutions.

Narrator

Different dialect of narration would greatly approve the overall material. It was really hard to understand and stay focused. Nothing against Dr. Farcas but did not expect the dialect as the only option.

Excellent Resource but Should Not Be Your ONLY Resource!

I ordered this book because I’m a lazy, uh, er, a busy single mom who couldn’t put off the exam any longer. I wanted to be able to study while driving my kid to her six dance classes a week and to and from work. The accent and pronunciation were a bit difficult to get used to (I could not NOT picture Dr. Far as as Borat) but I did, and in about four days I was through the book.

It went a bit to heavy on toxicology. While interesting to me, personally, due to my knowledge of that particular subject matter, there were almost no toxicology questions on the test. Still good to know, though. I wish it had gone more in-depth on ISO 14001 and which standard covers what, as there were several questions regarding those and it’s easy to get them mixed up (I’ve been an EHS specialist for 15 years and I still mix up CERCLA, EPCRA, and NEPA specifics!

This is an EXCELLENT resource, but I would highly suggest coupling it with a web-based training resource so that you can take practice tests. I did that and using both concurrently extremely helpful to my passing the exam as each filled in the holes that the other had in content.
