Gripping

Burning Sommer by Nicholas Harvey, the fourth installment in the Nora Sommers series, proves to be a gripping and gory thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Harvey delivers a captivating storyline filled with unique characters and unexpected twists.

One of the standout aspects of the book is Nora Sommers herself. Nora’s dark sense of humor, combined with her unconventional background and traumatic past, makes her an intriguing and refreshing protagonist. Her Nordic ability to be brutally honest, without hesitation, adds a layer of authenticity to her personality, setting her apart from other typical lead characters in the genre. Near the end of this, she was talking to herself about trying to filter the honesty a bit which was pretty funny.

As with most of Harvey’s books, Nora crosses paths with AJ Bailey, another prominent character from a different series. The dynamic between Nora and AJ adds depth to both stories and a familiar face in an intense story.

The heart of the novel lies in its fascinating storyline, centered around cases that aren’t typical for the island and peculiar crimes that test the limits of Nora’s abilities.

What truly elevates the audiobook experience is the performance by Kim Bretton. Her talent in embodying Nora’s character with ease and authenticity adds a new dimension to an already likable protagonist, making the listening experience all the more enjoyable.

Nicholas Harvey’s signature writing style is evident in “Burning Sommer,” as he masterfully weaves a little twist into the plot that keeps readers guessing until the very end. The unexpected turn in the story during the final hour of the audiobook will leave you unable to put it down, as it demands to be devoured in one sitting. Be prepared to stay up way past your bedtime, compelled to unravel the mystery alongside Nora.

Burning Sommer is a thrilling addition to the Nora Sommers series that manages to be both gruesome and captivating. With an unforgettable protagonist, an enthralling storyline, and a talented narrator bringing it all to life, this book is a must-read for fans of the genre and a testament to Nicholas Harvey’s storytelling prowess.
