About this listen
Jeanette and Sonny grew up within a tight-knit Sicilian community in the heart of Brooklyn during the 1940s. Only one year apart, they were inseparable. By the time they were teenagers, their puppy love had fully matured. They kissed under the stars on rooftops and declared their undying love and devotion. However, their families objected to the union. Forced to separate, they found new love interests. Jeanette travels to Sicily and falls in love again. Her life is about to take another turn. Before she leaves Brooklyn, she receives a letter and must make a crucial decision.
From a historical perspective, there is a great deal of captivating information. Life for immigrants in Brooklyn during the 1930s and 1940s is depicted. An authentic picture is portrayed from the fish markets and bakeries to working in Manhattan to day trips to Coney Island to the Catholic Church.
Author Janet Sierzant has skillfully crafted a lovely historical account in Brooklyn Love Story. The cultural conflict is powerfully depicted, and it is interesting for readers who enjoy stories with strong cultural commentaries and elaborately developed characters.
A gorgeous treat for fans of historical romance with strong female characters.
