Evil that people do

Mr, Lister tells a story that gets into and involved with what is going on. His hero John Jordan is a tarnished hero that you root for and feel sorry for at times. The twists and turns this book takes will keep you entertained and the you won't see the twist at the end until too late.

A Heavy Topic Handled Too Carefully?

I must admit I've never read a John Jordan mystery. I was interested in how a school shooting could result in a mystery, or how a fictionalized version of such events might read. Unfortunately, the mystery itself is not near as interesting as the lack of point of view from any sort of antagonist is frustrating.

The question following any school shooting is always "Why?" and rarely "Who?". It should not have been surprising, then, that a whodunnit would spend too little to no time building a reasonable motive. Constant references to Columbine seem to exist as only as motivation and justification for the book.

I did find a new great narrator in Kyle Tait, though. Given the material, it was read respectfully where necessary, and like the grizzled detective, when needed. honestly, it's the only reason I finished the book, because it was a comfortable narration.

reaction to the book bloodshed

Narrator was great, I just didn't like the way it ended and some of the people killed. It was well written and current.
