About this listen

Fire cop Tess Gannon is hot on the trail of a pyromaniac who's been setting buildings ablaze throughout Somersett, South Carolina, when ATF Special Agent Gage O'Halloran arrives on her fire scene. Coming out of a self-imposed exile, Gage suspects that Tess' "Flamemaster" is connected to a serial killer he apprehended three years ago.

Tess doesn't like Gage. He's too rude. Too arrogant. Too damn...male. Worse yet, she doesn't trust him. Forced into an uneasy alliance, Tess and Gage race to stop the killer from striking another fatal match. But Gage's fragile hope for redemption is put to the test when Tess becomes ensnared in a homicidal pyromaniac's deadly obsession. And time is running out.

"Men Shout"

Would you consider the audio edition of Blaze to be better than the print version?

yes, as you may miss the sassy dialogue. The spoken word shows off good dialogue at its best. Ms Ross is a new author for me, I started with No Safe Place and this was a WINNER for me. (see my review) You will not be disappointed. I however do not like S. Eastlake or C. Marlo reads so I will not buy their recordings of Ross's books.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

This is a Romance, make no mistake. Yes the story kept you on the edge of your seat and had a OMG ending.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I have downloaded more of Susan Denakers work as her male heros can be as sexy as all get out. She must move up the pace or she will continue to not get the best reviews. todays listeners can not listen at this slow pace as she recorded in 2005ish. Her deep voice when our hero is speaking or thinking is what saves her recording. I almost gave up before I got into this book and decided to give it more time. IT was worth me staying with it for the first few chapters as it soon became clear this a great listen.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

move over Hannibal!

Any additional comments?

ms ross has over 100 books and Audible really should get the hunky hero stories recorded as fast as possible. Great sassy dialogue, romance and a good mystery is what this author brings to a listen. All this FSOG or Tattoo Dark romance is getting very old for subject matter. A listener can only own or listen to a few. Some of the reviewers must be getting their listens for the reviews they write. I have gotten burned on 3 fave reviewers and I have sot out new reviewers who have closer tastes to mine. Thank you Audible for having listeners like me category.

A terrific story with some very surprising twists and turns. The characterization was terrific showing just how complex the human psyche can be.

Liked It

I enjoyed this book. The one thing I found good was the explanation for Gage's wealth. Sometimes the hero is rich and there's no explanation of how he became that way. I found him to be a strong hero, but Tess was not as great as a heroine, hence 4 stars.

Nothing but a long cliche.

This book was full of bad dialogue, predictable characters, and blatant cliches. It was a bad attempt at a "Backdraft" meets "Silence of the Lambs" story. The lead male character was too cliche to be likeable. This tainted the entire story for me. If the characters are believable, I will stick to a story, but this one was really just too horrible.

But, if all you want is steam and no story, you will not be disappointed.

Blaze

If you are interested in a hot romance this might not be a bad book but if you bought it because the description indicates it is about a fire arsen team don't bother reading it. From the moment the two main characters meet, at the crime scene, they are touching each other and making expicit remarks and that is what the whole book is about. Not for someone who is looking for suspense in a book.
