About this listen

A master manipulator accused of murder. An attorney sworn to defend her. Keera Duggan returns in a riveting novel of suspense by New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni.

When Jenna Bernstein, disgraced wunderkind CEO of a controversial biotech company, is accused of murdering her former partner and lover, she turns to Seattle attorney Keera Duggan to defend her. Keera is more than a master chess player who brings her intuitive moves into court—she’s Jenna’s childhood friend. But considering their history, Keera knows that where Jenna goes, trouble follows.

Five years earlier, Keera’s father successfully defended Jenna when she was tried for the killing of her company’s chief scientist who threatened to go public with allegations of corporate fraud. Keera knows Jenna too well. When she was a kid, Keera saw Jenna for what she was: a manipulative and frighteningly controlling sociopath. Now, with only circumstantial evidence against Jenna, Keera is willing to bury any trepidation she might have to defend a woman she believes, this time, to be innocent.

As the investigation gets underway and disturbing questions arise, Keera puts her trust in a client who swears that this time she's telling nothing but the truth. If this is all just another devious game, Keera might be working to set a murderer free.

Another one!

Dugoni knows how to write a story to pull you in. "Reasonable Doubt" began a bit slow but then it quickly pulled me right in to Keera and family dynamics, murders and trials. How long will I have to wait for his next novel? TOO LONG at best. A 5 star rating.
I only give a 4 to the narrator; she doesn't do male voices well at all.
Robert Dugoni's books are well worth the time spent enjoying them.

Complex but pulls together

Good crime drama, w/ interesting psychological aspects interwoven into the plot - so if you like law drama or you’re a psychology buff you’ll be entertained

Satisfying story line and character development

The story maintains intrigue. The narrator performs beautifully. The book has a great balance of mystery without going to gory

Excellent addition to the Kerra Duggan series.

Reading Her Deadly Game was my introduction to Robert Dugoni and his Kerra Duggan series. Immediately after completing Her Deadly Game, I borrowed Beyond Reasonable Doubt and learned that the first book in the Keera Duggan wasn’t a fluke or a one off. Beyond Reasonable Doubt while being like its predecessor, took off into uncharted territory both in the courtroom and in the interpersonal relationships between the Duggans and within Kerra’s personal orbit. This book also reveals seminal moments from Keera’s past that served to shape the person/lawyer she becomes later in her life. Once again borrowing Beyond Reasonable Doubt from Kindle Unlimited included a borrowed copy of the audiobook expertly narrated by Saskia Maarleveld. Until the third book in this series is released, I’ve begun looking at other books Saskia has narrated.

Great Listen

We were new to Dugoni about a year ago. Great writer. Have enjoyed all of his books so far. Good plot. Not predictable. Saskia Maarrleveld is a great narrator.

Great story, but get the legal terms right.

I really like this series, but, please, it’s ’malice aforethought’ not ‘malice afterthought’. Good grief! A pretty important distinction. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

It’s a Dugoni but not his best. Not even close.

The sort of solid story you expect from Dugoni but far from his best. A shameless rip off of many aspects of Theranos which is fine but maybe a bit lazy. Painfully predictable but as always nicely written and a pleasant way to spend 10 or so hours if you like Dugoni. Which I do.

For the love of God,

If you are going to narrate legal thrillers learn to pronounce legal terms. A motion in limine is pronounced lim-in-nee and aforethought as in malice aforethought is pronounced uh-for-thot.

Dugoni Always Delievers

Characters and plot picks up where book one left off. It was comforting to settle into this family of attorneys again, and to have Seattle as their home base.

The attorney protagonist, Kera, confronts a sociopathic, perhaps psychopathic, nemesis from her childhood school days. Should she take the case of someone she suspects is guilty and who will do her best to manipulate her?

The depth of angst making the decision is understandable but frustrating. It is the advice of her Irish attorney brawler father who convinces her that doing so will lead to a deeper understanding of herself.

Twists will keep you questioning the ending while eventually leading to an honest and satisfying ending.

Strongly recommend.
