O. Henry
About this listen
Between Rounds by O. Henry. This title is an audiobook produced by Canarit Audiobooks.
Did you know that O. Henry's real name was William Syndey Porter? He had many pseudonyms but is most known as O. Henry. He wrote over 300 stories and is known for playfully writing a twist at their end. Most of them are based in New York with characters being an average Joe. A census at the time stated there were about four million individuals living in NYC at the time, and that is how this volume of short stories received its name.
Like the characters in his stories, his life was full of surprising twists and turns, including career jumping in the search for his ultimate passion, accepting his flaws, and following his heart. The name he created for himself remains his legacy to this day, as his work is so highly regarded, as classic must-reads/listens, as well as an award named after him for outstanding short stories, and numerous media produced inspired by his various stories.
We hope you enjoy Canarit Audiobooks' production of Between Rounds!

As Huw Morgan is about to leave home forever, he reminisces about the golden days of his youth when South Wales still prospered, when coal dust had not yet blackened the valley. Story
Knut Hamsun's Hunger, first published in 1890 and hailed as the literary beginning of the 20th century, is a masterpiece of psychologically driven fiction. The story of a struggling artist living on the edge of starvation, the novel portrays the unnamed first-person narrator's descent into paranoia, despair, and madness as hunger overtakes him. As the protagonist loses his grip on reality, Hamsun brilliantly portrays the disturbing and irrational recesses of the human mind through increasingly disjointed and urgent prose.

Story
How Green Was My Valley is Richard Llewellyn’s best-selling - and timeless - classic, as well as the basis of a beloved film. As Huw Morgan is about to leave home forever, he reminisces about the golden days of his youth when South Wales still prospered, when coal dust had not yet blackened the valley. Drawn simply and lovingly, with a crisp Welsh humor, Llewellyn’s characters fight, love, laugh, and cry, creating an indelible portrait of a people. Richard Llewellyn (1906–1983), a Welsh novelist, was born in Hendon, England, in the county of Middlesex.

Story
This enchanting true story, written when the author was 93, is a moving tale of working-class life, the social divide, and forbidden love on the eve of the first World War. The narrow street on which Harry grew up appeared identical to countless other working-class English neighborhoods, except for the invisible wall that ran down the center of the street, dividing the Jewish families on one side from the Christians on the other.

Story
Dorothy Hare, the dutiful daughter of a rector in Suffolk, spends her days performing good works and cultivating good thoughts, pricking her arm with a pin when a bad thought arises. She does her best to reconcile her father’s fanciful view of his position in the world with such realities as the butcher’s bill. But even Dorothy’s strength has its limits, and one night, as she works feverishly on costumes for the church-school play, she blacks out. When she comes to, she finds herself on a London street, clad in a sleazy dress and unaware of her identity.
