 Good narrator, Great storytelling

The narrator did a good job, voicing bird, and a true Maine accent. It’s a little bit funny.

Children's Story for Adults

Children's story? Sure, but it's written so well that I've enjoyed it each time my kids listen to it. Brimming with nautical terms and a fun story, I highly recommend this for your library - kids will definitely learn while enjoying. "AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY"

Keeping it real, a fish tale in classic tradition.

IMO what makes this story special is the accent of the author. A Cape Cod native, I grew up hearing and reading this book for years with my siblings....and the localism (although McCloskey's is a Mainer voice) is just perfect on the ears. Bravo! 👏

Oops! I downloaded a children's book by mistake!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A really cute children's audio book but not so exciting for a senior citizen.

What was most disappointing about Robert McCloskey’s story?

I must be sure to listen to a sample before blindly downloading a book.

Have you listened to any of Tim Sample’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Tim Sample's narration was excellent.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Burt Dow?

None.

Burt Dow

Tim Sample has an original Maine accent but sadly he adds “dam” in a few places when none of Burt Dow books I’ve read since the 1980’s have the word in it. It’s not needed. Sample is not known for family material so they must have a hard time finding someone else with an original accent. Author has my vote- sorry to have Sample had his take on words: find another native speaker, and get Him to do a full collection of Mcklosey’s famous stories
