Nim lives on an island in the middle of the wide blue sea, shared by only her father, Jack, a marine iguana called Fred, a sea lion called Selkie, a turtle called Chica, and a satellite dish for her e-mail. No one else in the world lives quite like Nim, and she wouldn't swap places with anyone.

But when Jack disappears in his sail boat and disaster threatens her home, Nim must be braver than she's ever been before. And she needs help from her friends, old and new.

Always, always remember your life jacket. However, if there are any animals around like the wonderful, clever animals in this book, you'll be just fine. Perfectly a-little-scary-but-not-too-scary for kids. I can't wait to see the movie now! :)

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was funny and entertaining. It was also nice to see a strong, girl heroine.

Good story, and expression. Also the plot twists are great. I think it was a good book and you should read it too!

I never saw the movie. I occasionally pick up kids audio books in hopes I'll find something for my elementary aged boys. I don't think this would keep their attention, though little does besides TV, video games, and rough housing. Story, is of course, unbelievable, but beyond that not really exciting enough for me.

So much fun

The writing was fine for a short story, I guess. I'm not sure this is defined as a short story, but it sure seemed to be to me. It wasn't particularly engaging, not did it have much depth. I only kept listening because I thought maybe eventually it was going to go somewhere. Then, next thing I knew, it was over. Oh well, not much time wasted I suppose.
