About this listen
Burn brightly. Love fiercely. For all else is dust.
Every child of Glasnith learns the last words of Aillira, the god-gifted mortal whose doomed love affair sparked a war of gods and men, and Lira of clan Stone knows the story better than most. As a descendant of Aillira and god-gifted in her own right, she has the power to read people's souls, to see someone's true essence with only a touch of her hand.
When a golden-haired warrior washes up on the shores of her homeland - one of the fearful marauders from the land of the Frozen Sun - Lira helps the wounded man instead of turning him in. After reading his soul, she realizes Reyker is different than his brethren who attack the coasts of Glasnith. He confides in her that he's been cursed with what his people call battle-madness, forced to fight for the warlord known as the Dragon, a powerful tyrant determined to reignite the ancient war that Aillira started.
As Lira and Reyker form a bond forbidden by both their clans, the wrath of the Dragon falls upon them and all of Glasnith, and Lira finds herself facing the same tragic fate as her ancestor. The battle for Lira's life, for Reyker's soul, and for their peoples' freedom has only just begun....

Story
The ancient land of Eirinn is mired in war. Ciara, princess of Mide, has never known a time when Eirinn's kingdoms were not battling for power or Northmen were not plundering their shores. But lately a mysterious crow has been appearing to Ciara, whispering warnings of an even darker threat. Story
Mercenary Casia Greythorne cares about two things: completing whatever her latest job is and earning enough coin to buy the expensive medicine that's keeping her mentor alive. So when the king himself offers her a job, she can't resist the massive reward he offers - even if it means working with Captain Elander, the arrogant, mysterious right-hand to that king. Her partner may be infuriating, but at least their mission seems simple and quick enough: investigate the origins of the strange plague that's been ravaging their empire, help find a cure, and then call it a day.

half of a story
I genuinely loved the story but i felt it was rushed to be told and because of that a lot of characterization is lost. It's a beautiful world but I wish we learned more detail to really fall in love with the characters.

Narration is a little weird, but good story
I enjoyed this story, and will be seeking out the next in line. The male narrator I found to be a bit jarring. He read so fast and with so much urgency... It seemed unnatural compared to the female narrator. I had hoped that the male narrator would have done the male voices, but they each did the other characters voices for their own parts... The male narrators depiction of female voices was corny.

This ended my listening rut, I LOVED it!
I was in a bit of a listening rut. In some ways it feels like if you've heard or read one fantasy/adventure story, you've heard or read them all. This story was really enjoyable. In many ways it was typical of the genre, but the characters were great and I cared about them quite early on. I can't wait to start the next in this series.

Sophisticated But Torturous
War, Woe, Despair, Agony, Brutality, Violence. The stuff nightmares are made of is strung together to create this story. There is romance, but it takes a backseat to the deep darkness. It’s like the author was purging demons from her soul by spilling them onto the pages. I’m here for it all and that’s really saying something because I’m someone who normally abandons at the first hint of despair.
The narrators are what held me. The female enchanted and entranced me. I could listen to her beautiful voice all day every day. She is a jewel and I hope to discover more of her work. I also enjoyed the male reader. I found his voice soothing and commanding and well suited to his part.
The fact this was included in my membership was the biggest gift of all. I enjoyed every splendidly painful minute.

Enjoyed the story, but hard to listen to.
I love the story and can't wait to see how it develops even further in the next book.
My only frustration was with the narrators. The male spoke so fast most the time it was hard to keep up with him and the female sounded almost as if she was trying to sing the whole book and it was rather distracting. Mind you she has a lovely voice and they both did beautiful accents and distinct voices for different characters which I love, but her constant up and down and improper emphasis was frustrating.
