Misfit Pilots, Missing Colonists, and Murderous Mercenaries

The frontier is beginning to feel like home for the ragtag team who came together to fight the good fight and found a family in the process. Commander Beau Ward must take the fight to the pirates to rescue the rest of the colonists.

To succeed, he needs a bigger team.

The Admiral assigns the men Beau needs, but the newcomers are, unsurprisingly, misfits with a secret of their own that could compromise the entire mission.

Meanwhile, Katy has a different kind of miracle to pull off. One that draws attention from all the wrong places . . .

With increasing danger on every front, can Beau pull the squadron together in time to win the battle and bring the colonists home?

Lone Wolf Squadron might have won the initial battle, but they still could lose the war.

Continues to be an Epic Series Not to be Missed!!!

Book 2 of Lone Wolf Squadron picks up not long after the events of Book 1. At the start of Book 2, we are introduced to two of the fleet’s misfits, pilots Remi and Jock, who are in deep trouble for selling a bad batch of spirits they brewed illegally onboard a ship still that caused a fellow crew member a serious injury.
The two are subsequently given one more chance, and that chance is with the Lone Wolves, but they have to make their own way there.
In the meantime, the Squadron are still trying to deal with the events that occurred at the end of book 1, and are down to only two working fighters, as long as Charli and Elspeth can keep them running. Katy is desperately trying to find the team some new fighters, whilst Beau speaks to the Admiral to try and get some more funds.
The start of this book shows just how stretched things are for the squad though, as they not only don’t get the funding, they are told that they have to fend for themselves.
This leaves Katy trying to pull together the biggest trade she has ever completed, in order to gain the necessary resources to not just the fighters they need, but also the equipment to install on them.
But there is more going on behind the scenes than the Squadron knows about. There are several threats looming in this book, as the squad tries to get itself back to a ready position, the Raiders are desperate to get back into the Tardex system so they can start mining again. To achieve this, they have hired the Kratch, mercenaries so feared, that they are just legend. The Kratch have fighters that are brutal in efficiency, with exceptional speed and weapons, they are a match for anything that the Lone Wolf Squadron has, except that Charli has tweaked the armour, and of course, the Lone Wolves are outstanding pilots.
But whenever you defeat a Kratch pilot, they don’t just replace a ship, they increase the number of ships until the threat is defeated, thus the reason that they always win.
Added to this, there is also another more nefarious threat that is growing behind the scenes and one of the squad is in very real danger. I don’t want to give away spoilers.
This is a really fantastic second book. The character work continues to be outstanding, with each of the major characters in the squad growing in this book as we learn more about them. We especially learn more about Charli, Katy, Jadd and Elspeth, and the two new members of the team Remi and Jock.
We also get to learn more about Hale and his new Marine squadron, and Hale’s Daughter is added to the Lone Wolf Squadron as well after her action in the first book.
There is plenty of action on the other side as well, with the Raiders continuing to want to fight back, and want to come back into the sector. This means the introduction of ‘The Kratch’, which adds a whole new element to the story. I don’t want to give too many spoilers, but there are additional elements at work in this story as well working behind the scenes to undermine our intrepid Lone Wolf Squadron.
The world-building continues to be outstanding, with detailed and in-depth descriptions of the planets, the station, different starfighters, not to mention, some really fascinating alien races. All aspects of this story have been covered with some really wonderful detail, really engaging the reader so you can get totally lost in this story.
Book #2 continues to impress, and I can’t wait for book 3 in the series. If you love some great Sci-Fi action, with an element of Thriller/Mystery, you will love this. This really reminds me of the old Battlestar Galactica style series, with elements of Firefly, and for those that have seen Star Wars Rebels (the animated series), there is that really gritty feel of the Rebel Underdog, fighting the good fight against a stronger opponent. Makes for a great read!!
Joel Richards has a fantastic voice for this series. He provides such wonderful voices for the main characters, both male and female, creating this really wonderful story environment that draws you in, so you get totally lost in it.
He has a very clear and concise voice, so he is easy to understand. He not only does a great range of male and female voices, but he really captures their feelings and emotions of the characters and passes that on, so we know how they feel. Richards really brings the story to life, making this a great Narration to listen to.
