About this listen

An inquisitive woman defies expectations to become the mother of forensic science in this absorbing short story by New York Times bestselling author Ariel Lawhon.

You will have ninety minutes to solve the murder. A startling declaration by a new Harvard instructor: sixty-seven-year-old Frances Glessner Lee. It’s 1945. Before her, six wary male students given to assumptions—especially when it comes to women without a formal education—are challenged to solve a real-life whodunit using Mrs. Lee’s creation, the crime scene diorama. Every detail is accurate. And every detail matters when solving a crime with no survivors…

Ariel Lawhon’s Barriers to Entry is part of Blaze, a collection of short stories about incendiary women across the decades who dare to defy convention. They can be read or listened to in one sitting.

Good true story

This tells the story of teaching others how to solve a murder by looking at a display of the murder scene. She taught detectives as well as those in the medical field. It was very interesting to listen to. Will finish the rest of the series

This was good!

I loved the pace of this (although it was rather quick). I would love to read more about Frances and about how her life was affected by this line of work.

Totally intriguing

This was unexpectedly good! I liked the entire Blaze collection of books but this one stood out because the story is based on real dioramas that are still being used. I loved the main female in this and the information given.

Highly recommend if you enjoy short stories that are a small sliver of a person’s life.

Thought Provoking

I really got into the case! I'm glad that the main character was just as " hard nosed" but able to see beyond her own reasons to open the horizon to a lot of men that only have one vision when it comes to a woman's capabilities.

Original

I enjoyed it. The story was original. I learned about the nutshell diarohmas. The narrators intensity and tone were perfect.

Questioning

Now this story definitely has you on the edge of your seats wondering who did it and still leaves you questioning what happened. I call that a good listen to me 👍🏿

Whodunit?!

Oh, a murder mystery class! This was a fabulous short story. But the question was never answered! Who killed the Judsons?

Well done!

I'm not a fan of the several CSI shows on TV, nor of mutder mysteries, but this short story about the teaching of crime scene investigation really captured my interest. Now I want to know "who done it"!
