About this listen
Race across the world and explore the depths of the caverns below in this pair of adventure stories: Around the World in 80 Days and Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne.
Jules Verne was an early pioneer in the science-fiction genre and wrote novels that send readers and listeners exploring the most outer reaches of the world. His books are known for their sense of adventure and action, as well as their adoption of scientific processes and discoveries as the basis for any fantasy technologies within.
Around the World in 80 Days: Phileas Fogg has money beyond what he needs and lives a humble, lonely life. When a railway opens up that claims it is possible to travel around the world in 80 days, Phileas decides to use his money to take a bet that he can, in fact, make that journey. His trip is full of action as he races against the clock to make it around the world and back, meeting many wonderful friends along the way.
Journey to the Centre of the Earth: After finding a secret coded message in an ancient manuscript, Otto Lidenbrock discovers a pathway to the center of the earth through a crater in Iceland. He leaves for Iceland immediately with his nephew to explore the crater, which is located in a volcano. The two journey along with their guide into the subterranean cave, where they encounter a world preserved by time, with ancient fossils and natural wonders. The voyage is full of wonder and adventure, danger and excitement.

Story
The War of the Rebellion is over, and the members of the American Gun Club, bored with inactivity, look around for a new project. At last they have it: "We will build the greatest projectile the world has ever seen and make the moon our 38th state!" When From the Earth to the Moon was published in 1865, it was regarded as pure fantasy. Who could imagine a rocket that would carry men and animals through space?

Story
First appearing in print in 1890, the character of Sherlock Holmes has now become synonymous worldwide with the concept of a super sleuth. His creator, Conan Doyle, imbued his detective hero with intellectual power, acute observational abilities, a penchant for deductive reasoning and a highly educated use of forensic skills. Indeed, Doyle created the first fictional private detective who used what we now recognize as modern scientific investigative techniques.

He was master of a Scottish privateer, and he told the English officers that he had that morning seen the Spanish Armada off the Cornish coast.

Starring Orson Welles, Anges Moorehead, and Ray Collins, The Count of Monte Cristo is a tale of revenge and retribution. Edmond Dantès, a young, energetic sailor, is falsely accused of treason on his wedding day and incarcerated in the forbidding Château d'If. His escape and ultimate revenge on those who wronged him makes this one of the most thrilling stories in French literature, as compelling now as when it was first published in 1846.

Story
One of the great adventure novels of our language creates a most engaging central character, Nostromo. A picturesque man of action and popular hero, Nostromo lives to be "well-spoken of" by the citizens of Costaguana, the mythical South American banana republic where the story takes place. Around this figure, Conrad spins a story of revolution, politics, and racial conflict as complex as Nostromo, the man whose greatest enemy is himself.
