Publisher's summary

The mutiny on HMS Bounty, in the South Pacific on 28 April 1789, is one of history's truly great stories - a tale of human drama, intrigue and adventure of the highest order - and in the hands of Peter FitzSimons it comes to life as never before.

Commissioned by the Royal Navy to collect breadfruit plants from Tahiti and take them to the West Indies, the Bounty's crew found themselves in a tropical paradise. Five months later, they did not want to leave. Under the leadership of Fletcher Christian, most of the crew mutinied soon after sailing from Tahiti, setting Captain William Bligh and 18 loyal crewmen adrift in a small open boat. In one of history's great feats of seamanship, Bligh navigated this tiny vessel for 3,618 nautical miles to Timor.

Fletcher Christian and the mutineers sailed back to Tahiti, where most remained and were later tried for mutiny. But Christian, along with eight fellow mutineers and some Tahitian men and women, sailed off into the unknown, eventually discovering the isolated Pitcairn Island - at the time not even marked on British maps - and settling there.

This astonishing story is historical adventure at its very best, encompassing the mutiny, Bligh's monumental achievement in navigating to safety, and Fletcher Christian and the mutineers' own epic journey from the sensual paradise of Tahiti to the outpost of Pitcairn Island. The mutineers' descendants live on Pitcairn to this day, amid swirling stories and rumours of past sexual transgressions and present-day repercussions. Mutiny on the Bounty is a sprawling, dramatic tale of intrigue, bravery and sheer boldness, told with the accuracy of historical detail and total command of story that are Peter FitzSimons' trademarks.

Thrilling adventure with great narration

One of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to. I was hesitant given I’d seen the movie and thought I knew the story. The audiobook was so much more than I expected. The action builds throughout the book and I became increasingly drawn in until I just couldn’t stop listening at the end. The narration was world class. Don’t hesitate to get this audiobook. You’ll really enjoy it.

A tale of wayward men.

I am glad I listened to this audiobook. The narrator did an amazing job. Peter Fitzsimons does a good job telling the history of the “Mutiny on the Bounty” which was not an easy task. He uses a Quartino Tarantino style story plot of three groups: the loyalist, the mutineers, and the natives. Each grabbing for power. This story requires your full-attention, because there is so much going on at one time with multiply characters while each group has opposing interest.

Gripping!!!!

Loved the book so much. I almost cried when it came to the end and the audio stopped - I felt I’d lost a friend. The sign of a remarkable book. Now researching where I can find more books by the author.

Mutiny on the Bounty

Fascinating story. There is so much more to this story than I ever realized and glad I listened. There are even some conspiracy theories to ponder at the end. The narrator did a great job.

Incredible Story

Honestly I was hesitant to buy it because it is long and I was worried a 1700’s historical book would get old.

WOW was I mind blown. The story is incredible and obviously a tremendous amount of research went into it.

I highly recommend to anyone into history, adventure and awesome stories. If that’s not you, well….I’m sorry
