Publisher's summary
She doesn’t believe in second chances. He's wondering why God called him to Crystal Creek. Can she convince him to walk away, or will he prove his love is everlasting?
Pastor Trey Channing is lost in grief when he answers God’s call to travel to a small town. He and his teenage children struggle to let God heal the loss that led them on a cross-country journey. As Trey gets to know Crystal Creek, he’s drawn to Hannah McKean, a friendly waitress whose smile doesn’t hide the pain in her eyes.
Hannah knows God never forsook her even when she turned away from Him. In a weak moment, she committed a mistake that stole her future and made each day a struggle to provide for her and her daughter. Believing this lapse has ruined all chances for love, she’ll never get close to another man again.
When a terrible accident hospitalizes Hannah, it’s the kind pastor who stands by her side and creates a longing for more. To save herself from heartbreak, she pushes him away. What she hadn’t expected was someone more stubborn than she when it comes to answering love’s call.
Will Trey prove Hannah right and leave, or will he teach her that once she loves herself, she can open her heart to his love?
Another Chance at Love is the first book in the Christian romance series Hearts of Crystal Creek. If you like age-gap romance for people who think they've lost their chance at love, then you’ll love Laura Haley-McNeil’s sweet romance tales.

Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

One little solar flare happens and suddenly you find yourself 85 years in the future. Eighty-five years from your dream job. Your ailing mother whose only companion in this world is you. Gabriel Ferrara is tall and handsome, and most days she wants to stab her eyes out with a pencil, anything to stop her seeing his perfection. How any female could work in these conditions and not be completely besotted with him is beyond her. Then he opens his mouth and she remembers why. He's bossy and sarcastic, with a wit so sharp it could cut glass. Every weekend is the same . . . while he's off living his dream life, she's counting down the days until Monday when she sees him again.

Story
In this unique new history of the world's most ubiquitous language, linguistics expert David Crystal draws on words that best illustrate the huge variety of sources, influences, and events that have helped to shape our vernacular since the first definitively English word was written down in the fifth century ("roe", in case you are wondering). Featuring Latinate and Celtic words, weasel words and nonce-words, ancient words ("loaf") to cutting edge ("twittersphere") and spanning the indispensable words that shape our tongue ("and", "what") to the more fanciful ("fopdoodle"), Crystal takes us along the winding byways of language.

Couldn’t handle the narration
I didn’t make it past Chapter 4. The narration was horrible, with inflections and emphasis in the wrong places. It was bad enough that I just couldn’t get into the story.

Sweet story but the reading is awful … no more AI narrated books for me!
The story is sweet and is a delicate, innocent tale of romantic and maternal love with a strong overtone of faith. That was what I needed when I purchased the audiobook. However, the virtual bot narration was terrible: even the names of main characters were botched at times and the inflection felt more as if the intended audience was a group of first-graders. It is safe to say I won’t be purchasing books with virtual narration ever again. Someone could have at least reviewed and corrected the audio before releasing it.
