Publisher's summary

Berry opens this latest installment of the Port William series with young Andy Catlett preparing to visit a place he'd been to many times before, though this would be an adventure he will take very seriously.

Nine years old, Andy embarks on the trip by bus, alone for the first time. He decides it will be a rite of passage and his first step into manhood. Sometimes a handful at home, Andy was a good boy when visiting his Grandparents' houses, and he looked forward to the little spoiling certain to come his way.

A beautiful short novel, this book is a perfect introduction into the whole world of Port William and will be as well a new chapter for those already familiar with this rich unfolding story.

Unexpected Pleaure

This short novel by Wendell Berry reminded me of the classic "So Dear To My Heart"
It about the wonderful memories of a 9 year old boy in 1942 . Its filled with beautiful characters in his family and his experiences during a short trip to visit Both grand parents between Christmas and New Years. The narrator's voice was
so well suited to this story that you felt like you were right there with him in the memory.I am sure it would not have been as good if I just read the book. Loved it!

Dream-like Perfection

This is my third Wendle Berry book this year and each time I finish one I come away feeling both full to the brim with gratitude for life and simultaneously melancholy for the life that used to be. Berry is an absolute master at his craft and I can’t wait to read more of his work.

It’s entirely too short… :)

I like Wendell Berry very much, loved Jayber Crow, and like this story except for the fact that it’s TOO SHORT! :)

A worthy listen (or read)

Wendell Berry’s writing makes me believe the stories that he told. And though these particular characters may be fictional, they are true and reflect the reality around us. This book made my heart ache in all the best ways.
