Publisher's summary
Psychiatrist Troy Stoker, MD, bursts onto the psychiatry thriller landscape. His high-profile patient, the lieutenant governor-elect's wife, makes a simple mistake that could cost her everything, including her life, and brings her face to face with an American jackal.
In this confrontation with corruption, Ann Higgins stumbles into the underworld life of a high-ranking South Dakota statesman, and she catapults her psychiatrist, Troy Stoker, MD, into the conflict. When her chilling discovery threatens to devastate a politician's secret dominion, Ann ends up dangling from a makeshift noose and fighting for her survival while plunging Dr. Stoker even deeper into the battle of minds, muscles, and new tech.
Dr. Stoker enlists Errol Rivera, a fellow physician and military attaché, to help unravel the mystery and take on the challenges set before them. Together Stoker and Rivera use their brilliant intuition, psychiatric savvy, and military skills to pursue the veiled, corrupt politician and hunt down his criminal pack.
Still, Stoker is unaware that his Cuban-born, patriot friend, Rivera, is much more than a doctor with a hero's past. At his command Rivera unleashes an elite band of warriors who engage their training, guts, technology, and weaponry to confront the corruption.
Hold on and jump into this gritty thrill ride as the new hero, Troy Stoker, MD, emerges in an explosive new political and psychiatry thriller, American Jackal.

Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

Story
Alan Gregory is a clinical psychologist with a thriving practice in Boulder, Colorado. His life begins to unravel when one of his female patients is found in an apparent suicide and the local paper begins printing accusations from an unnamed source of sexual impropriety between the woman and Dr. Gregory. He launches a psychological and personal quest for the truth that rapidly intensifies when more of his patients die untimely deaths, and Gregory suspects not only that the deaths are related but that another one of his patients may be somehow involved. Lacking facts but roused by suspicion and troubled by seemingly random acts of terror around him, Gregory starts to fear for the safety of the people he loves. The question of the inviolability of confidential disclosures made to Gregory by his patients - privileged information - becomes crucial as the psychologist pursues an unsettling romance with Lauren Crowder, a lovely deputy district attorney investigating one of the deaths. Bound to silence, Gregory follows the psychological tracks of someone he fears may be a cunning and disturbed killer, while turning to his enigmatic but supportive partner, Diane Estevez, for counsel, and to his tart-tongued female urologist neighbor for support. The sinister, surprising drama unfolds against Boulder's Rocky Mountain backdrop, in the arresting natural beauty of Aspen, and in the midst of a baroque Halloween costume party in downtown Boulder. Finally, in a lonely mountain lodge enshrouded in menace, the story comes to its breathtaking climax.

Very enjoyable 25 hours +
Where does American Jackal: A Troy Stoker, M.D. Psychiatry Thriller rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I very much enjoyed it. It is a first book for the authors so all of the repeat words such as majestic, furthermore, moreover, and phrases I will give you a break on. I did enjoy the story, characters, the time spent on the characters to let us learn about who they are, what they are all about, and why it's important to the reader. I look forward to the continued story and improvements in writing.
What about Bob Dunsworth’s performance did you like?
Loved Bob's voice, different characters and how they sounded, etc.

WHO ISTHE REAL JACKAL? WHO TAKES IT OVER THE TOP?
If you could sum up American Jackal: A Troy Stoker, M.D. Psychiatry Thriller in three words, what would they be?
ACTION, BRAINY, "PAGE TURNER", WOW! (SORRY THATS FOUR)
What did you like best about this story?
THE LAST 5 HOURS WERE HARD TO STOP-BUT I HAD TO SLEEP.
WE GET A REAL GOOD GLIMPSE INTO THE WORLD OF PSYCHIATRY AND ALSO ESPIONAGE! THERE IS SOME MEDICINE INVOLVED, BUT THE AUTHORS WROTE IT IN A WAY THAT IS EASILY UNDERSTANDABLE.
Have you listened to any of Bob Dunsworth’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I THINK HE IS GETTING BETTER-THE COMMANDER'S VOICE IS WELL--COMMANDING!! BOB DUNSWORTH IS THE CREAM OF THE CROP WITH MANY TOP NOTCH CREDITS AND AWESOME VOICE FOR THIS FUN AND ENJOYABLE ENJOYABLE LISTEN.YES, THERE IS SOME MEDICINE INVOLVED, BUT THE AUTHORS WRITE IT IN A WAY THAT IS EASILY UNDERSTANDABLE.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
WHEN TROY STOKER ACTUALLY CRAWLED INTO THE FMRI MACHINE--THAT WAS GUTSY! THE BANTER BUT SECRETIVE NATURE OF THE SOMETIMES FLAMBOYANT (SP?) ERROL RIVERA! THOSE ARE SOME KICK ASS SCENES! THIS BOOK IS A BIT COMPLEX, INTENSE BUT CHARACTERS FLESHED OUT GOOD AND MAY SURPRISE YOU.
Any additional comments?
DO YOU LIKE THRILLERS? THIS TEAM HAS THE GUTS AND THE GOODS TO GET THINGS DONE! WHO IS THE REAL JACKAL? HE'S GOT FRIENDS, HE'S GOT RULES. HE'S GOT TOYS--AND THEY WILL ROCK YOU HARD!!!! THIS BOOK IS EPIC AND AS THE AMAZON REVIEWS SAY, IT'S HARD TO STOP AND AT 34 HOURS LONG THIS IS A GREAT DEAL FOR 1 CREDIT?! WOW! i THINK THE TRUE HEROES EMERGE AS VERY STEELY, RULE BREAKERS, TOUGH, BUT VERY HUMAN WHO WILL USE THEIR UNIQUE SKILLS TO DO WHAT THEY NEED TO DO. WILD!

The very best narrator & the very best story!
What did you love best about American Jackal: A Troy Stoker, M.D. Psychiatry Thriller?
It is extremely intriguing and the suspense keeps me excited! This book has it all.
What did you like best about this story?
There are several storylines that weave together seamlessly. Plus, there are very funny one liners! There are funny parts that really make me laugh. There are white knuckle parts. There are some sickly gruesome parts. And a real b!tch doctor.
Which scene was your favorite?
If I tell you, it might spoil the book. But, it involves very ravenous cyotes (or "Yotes", as SDSU rivals like to call them).
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Hang on, American Jackal is going to blow your mind!
Any additional comments?
The storylines are very addictive. Mr. Bob Dunsworth is the perfect narrator. He takes the words off of the page and really brings them to life. If I could only have one audio book for my entire life, hands down, this is the audio book for me. It keeps me glued and craving more.....can't and don't want to stop listening; just like when I was reading the book. It has everything you could ever want in an excellent book.

What an amazing addition to the genre
I've been a fan of these kind of books most of my life, and I love this entry. It might start a little slow but once you get into the meat of this book it's a page turner. These two authors are amazing and I hope they have a long and prosperous career, there are a few parts I didn't agree with but that seems to happen a lot with this genre. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good book.

I have miles to go before I sleep
Enjoyable book that contains many sub plots
The author sat down and planned out the story so it isn't just thrown together. It is enjoyable light reading. Everything works out in the end and everybody goes home happy...if you could keep a young reader interested for the amount of time it takes to get through this book, it will require some dividing up ... Maybe make it into a 3 part series

Just say no.
What disappointed you about American Jackal: A Troy Stoker, M.D. Psychiatry Thriller?
It’s hard to figure out where to begin to describe how bad this book was. The writing was very amateurish with many grammatical errors and inconsistencies. The character development was very poor and superficial. The character’s world was a very simplistic, black and white one in which self-righteous, paranoid and yet hypocritical behavior is celebrated. And the plot was unbelievable.
As a physician I was very disturbed with much of the medical information presented. Much was inaccurate as to diagnostic reasoning, treatment and scientific facts. The subplot about the medical board is laughable. Anyone who has any knowledge in this area, and as a physician I do, will recognize the ridiculousness here. The medical board in my state does not function in such a capricious and unsubstantiated manner. If the medical board in SD functions as described in this book, I feel sorry for all the physicians there but I think this is just another example of the authors’ paranoid delusions raring their ugly heads.
Also, the 2 physician protagonists are described with syrupy sweetness as to their noble intentions in treating their patients but abuse—both physically and mentally those they believe are their enemies. A true physician has compassion for all and would not denigrate or purposely mistreat anyone.
In addition, the crazy right wing propaganda throughout was very hard to swallow. And while on the one hand, the authors continually quote the 1st, 2nd and 4th amendments of the US constitution, bash Obamacare, and tree hugging liberals, the fact that a clandestine military group operating outside the law saves the day is hilarious.
But maybe the worst part of this whole debacle was the stupid and again unbelievable way in which the bad guy’s 2 dogs were killed and their deaths celebrated in the end. After all the other indignities, I think this one sickened me the most.
Would you ever listen to anything by Francis Bandettini and Matt Nilsen again?
No.
Did Bob Dunsworth do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
He did pretty well considering how bad the material was.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Revulsion.

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!
I bought this book based on the many, many good reviews....however, I should have paid closer attention to the bad reviews as they were closer to what this book actually was, bad.
I appreciate that someone sat down for hours to write this and applaud the same as I am not a writer. However, the great many good reviews makes me wonder what they heard...
The characters are simplistic and overblown in their respective roles. The plot is interesting, but not well developed. The political views and Obama bashing is too much. The psychological issues dealt with by the various characters are surface deep and appear to be simplified to reach simplistic readers.
I found a lot of this book to be condescending, simple, boring and transparent. I am an avid reader and listener, and while I appreciate the authors efforts, I have never rolled my eyes more than I have at this book.
I would never recommend this book to anyone.
