About this listen

Winter blankets the land, and more than just hope has died. Prevented from invading the Fhrey homeland by the tower of Avempartha, the western army seeks a way across the Nidwalden River before the fane obtains the secret of dragons. As time runs out for both humanity and the mystic Suri, the only chance for the living rests with the dead. Having made their fateful choice, can a handful of misfits do the impossible, or are they forever lost to an inescapable grave? Do gods truly exist? Is it possible to know the future? And what lies beyond the veil of death?

In the tradition of Virgil’s Aeneid, Dante’s Divine Comedy, and Milton’s Paradise Lost, the most epic of tales transcend the world of the living. It’s time to see what lies in Elan’s Age of Death.

From Michael J. Sullivan (New York Times, USA Today, and Washington Post best-selling author), comes the second to the last installment in the epic fantasy series, Legends of the First Empire. The series chronicles a pivotal point in Elan’s history when humans rise against the Fhrey who they once saw as gods. Set 3,000 years before the Riyria tales, Legends is a stand-alone fantasy series which is independent of all other Elan stories. That said, if you do listen to the other books, you’ll see lies revealed and the truth about historical figures unmasked.

Conclusion mostly wraps things up

This conclusion was a long time coming. I love Michael J. Sullivan but books 3-6 could have been tightened up and shortened. Some elements were left open, perhaps for future books. Tim G Reynolds was wonderful as always

Let’s be honest.

Everyone wants to grab the author. Tie him up and send him off the cliff. Then leave him hanging there until the next book comes out. Put grease on the rope so if he tries to get up he’ll slip back down. Just the way he leaves us at the end of each book so far. Honestly. Is he and terry brooks friends? I think so. But loved the book. Omg I didn’t realize it was over until mrs Sullivan started talking. I was like “WTF??!!!!!” Cant wait for “ rise and fall. “ and of course Mr Reynolds awesome as always. Can I be his grandchild and just listen to him read?

So Good!

This is my favorite book in the series so far!
It’s got everything that makes a good action film, an excellent drama, and a fantastic fantasy tv series!
I can’t wait to dive into the last book in the series. Even though it will make me sad that I will not spend more time with these characters in the future; it was so much fun to have met & get to know them throughout this series.
Thank you for a wonderful story this far.

Favorite so far

This book has been my favorite in the series so far, probably closely followed by Age of Swords. I love the insight into the ancient world and machinations that came long before this series started that are still underway. Also having started with the original series, it's intensely satisfying to learn more about the gods of the world and the mystery behind the great catastrophe separated all people.
