About this listen

Phantom PI Paul Harrison from the national best-selling Haunted Guesthouse mysteries returns with a tale of his own in a house full of ghosts, secrets, and spectacular oceanside views.…

Three years ago in a large Victorian house on the Jersey Shore in the town of Harbor Haven, fledgling private investigator Paul and his client, Maxie Malone, were murdered. Since then, recent divorcée and reluctant ghost whisperer Alison Kerby and her 10-year-old daughter, Melissa, have moved in and converted the place to a guesthouse, where Maxie and Paul are now checked in for an eternity and ready to solve any case that comes their way - or at least spook the guests (who love it). Alison’s got a lot on her plate at the moment, however, so when Paul discovers the 300-year-old ghost of a small boy in the house, he decides not to involve her in the case. The boy, named Eagle of the Sun, says he’s searching for his missing mother. Paul’s happy to help Eagle of the Sun find her, though something about the boy’s story doesn’t add up. But why would a lost little ghost lie?

Editorial reviews

A ghost story told from the perspective of a ghost - one who’s a private investigator residing on the New Jersey shore - lends itself easily to comedy. This light and spooky mystery plays with the detective genre in a style that young adult listeners will relish. A Wild Ghost Chase is part of a series about ghost P.I. Paul Harrison and his spectral friend Maxie; the house they share with its mother and daughter owners and the ways they accommodate each other and solve mysteries together. It is the first in the series to be told from the P.I.’s perspective and James Patrick Cronin performs him as a fairly straightforward gumshoe bringing comedic elements in when he and Maxie, who’s somewhat of a troublemaker, interact with the living.

THIS STORY WAS WAY TOO SHORT! BUT, I DID LIKE THAT IT PERTAINED TO AN AUTISTIC CHILD WITH UNDERSTANDING

BOO

The story was a good one but the narrator ruined it the only reason I was able to finish it was because I knew it was a short story and that the underlying story would be good.

Redo with new narrator

This is a story focusing on Paul, Melissa and Maxie taking on a PI case for another ghost. The story makes sense if you know what the series is about already. If you haven't heard one of the first couple of stories, I'd recommend going back to those. If this is included in your membership, it isn't a total waste of time, but I wouldn't pay for it.

I appreciate why the narrator changed for this story (as it's from Paul's perspective), but his voices for some characters are just awful (Maxie, Melissa and Grandma... ugh).

For an "in between" story, it isn't bad, but...

I have enjoyed listening to this series, but absolutely could not finish this one. The narrator is AWFUL at the women's voices. I couldn't stop cringing.

Narration awful

The story was fine and in keeping with the previous ones. And I do agree that having a male narrate this one makes sense. But this guy is so stiff that he might as well be reading a text book to a classroom. His attempts at female voices are just plain pitiful.

Very glad he isn't listed as the narrator on any more in the series.

Ok story but boring narrator

Did not enjoy narrator. Story not caliber past novels. Repeat too much of past novels

Review a wild ghost chase

Now why did I put story in “” quotes?
Because when you are writing a ghost story, you, the author, can decide what to write. I read some of the comments about racism and I was like WHAT? HUH? My grandfather was part Sioux Indian, my parents went to and graduated with honors from Stanford University, when it was the Stanford Indians, and were furious when the name was changed. It was ridiculous of Stanford. In any event, this story was not a history book and obviously not intended to be. It’s just fun. I read to escape. I hear enough crap in the news every day hence why I turn to books that are not part of reality. A refreshing change.
Thank you E J Copperman.

Another fun “story” from a wonderful author

I love this series I love the characters and the narrator of this book seems to do the exact voice I pictured of Paul but definitely not the other characters. He tries but he can’t hold a candle to Amanda Ronconi. She brings the characters to life in a way few can. The story is good I think not sure why so many scathing reviews. I think people are focusing too much on the poor narrator. Can’t wait to hear the next book!

He just can’t do the voices

I liked the storyline and I am a big fan of the series. This was a new narrator from the main series and I was a little disappointed. He didn't sound Canadian or British which is Paul's character. Also the grandmother who is in her 50s was made to sound closer to 90 which was a bummer. But still worth listening to and great if you haven't listened to the other books so you have no idea what the characters should sound like.

Good quick story

Cooperman wrote an entertaining story. The narrator not so much ... reading was stilted & unnatural.

Not your typical Cooperman
