About this listen

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (Also known as ADHD) presents itself in three main symptoms: inattention and hyperactivity or impulsivity. Hyperactivity and impulsivity are closely related and oftentimes coexist with inattention. Women and girls with ADHD most often go undiagnosed for several reasons. This is due in part because women tend do have less obvious or less misbehaved characteristics than men do.

Men usually have hyperactive or impulsive forms of ADHD, while women more often suffer from inattention, which causes us more difficulty staying focused, paying attention to details, remembering things, focusing, and listening to others without interrupting.

What makes it even worse for us women is that a lot of the characteristics of the inattentive form of ADHD, such as being impulsive or shy, are oftentimes not viewed as symptoms but rather as character flaws or personality traits. However, women with ADHD struggle just as much, if not more, than men do.

In 87 Tips and Tricks for Women with ADHD I attempt to teach you different tips and tricks you can use to manage your ADHD in seven main categories:

  1. Time Management
  2. Remembering Things and Apps and Electronic Gadgets
  3. Managing the Kitchen and Other Household Essentials
  4. Moms with ADHD
  5. Managing your Money and Personal Life
  6. Social Skills and Calming Emotions
  7. Managing Organization and Clutter

Excellent tips!

I found this book to be quite entertaining and beneficial at the same time…it provided a general overview of what women with ADHD experience, why so many go undiagnosed, and several tips and tricks on how to make life easier! Some tips and tricks were life-saving hacks, while others were light hearted and humorous…definitely not a boring read!

A wonderful book

This is one book that I would certainly put on my list to purchase!! I have been told by several people over the years that I have ADHD, but I never really believed it.

loved the content

Didn't like the voice of the reader she didn't seem like someone who suffers from ADHD so didn't put any feeling into her reading

Educational Informative audiobook

What makes this book work is its simplicity. Matlen doesn’t suggest 10 different ways to organize your house – she gives you a few methods that can be adjusted to suit your lifestyle.

Felt patronizing and sexist

I realize this book is for women, however it’s very sexist and stereotypical.
The narrator sounded like she was reading a rule book to 5 year olds.
This may have been more helpful if it was written in the 50s.
To be fair I only made it halfway though the book because I have ADHD and have more things I’d rather do than listen to this.
I tried to ignore the tone, I tried to imagine it was being read the way the author may have wanted it to be read, but my brain said that was too much work when I’m already being read to.
I hyper focused so much on hating her tone that I missed some of the “tips”.
Also I don’t live in a “gender norm” household. My man makes dinner, does the dishes and the laundry. I fix the cars and work on the house.
These tips need to be less hetero typical.

Good content -painful narration

Love the simple functionality of the content. Struggled with stomaching the nursery rhyme cadence and the oh-woe-is-me tone.
