Retreating from the pain into a fantasy world he starts to believe that he is a Christ figure, a universal saviour. But Christ died for the sins of others! The pen may be mightier than the sword but the author wields his like a cleaver, splicing images together to present a savagely grotesque world.

Zane Grey is considered the first and best author of "Western" novels. In this book, Lin Sloan's obsession with capturing a wild stallion he called "Wildfire" almost costs him his life. Bostil is a man who loves fast horses and is used to getting what he wants. Throw in a beautiful girl just coming into womanhood, a crazed young man with a grudge against her, a treacherous act, horse thieves and a yearly big race and you have all the elements Zane Gray so ably weaves into a fascinating story packed with action and adventure.

A raging flood in Missouri took the lives of a married couple who barely got their three-year-old son into a cradle that carried him downstream. The parents were drowned. A kind rancher managed to pull the makeshift device to shore and wound up calling the boy Dave and raising the youngster to manhood without a known family name. The savior didn’t officially adopt the boy but they behaved as a loving father and son in adult life. A scoundrel family discovered the truth and labeled the young man a “nameless nobody.”

Did you know that O. Henry’s real name was William Syndey Porter? He had many pseudonyms, but is most known as "O. Henry". He wrote over 300 stories, and is known for playfully writing a twist at their end. Most of them are based in New York, with characters being an average Joe. A census at the time stated there were about four million individuals living in NYC at the time, and that is how this volume of short stories received its name. Like the characters in his stories, his life was full of surprising twists and turns.

Der junge Bloody Fox wuchs als Waisenkind am Rande des Llano Estacado auf. Seine ganze Familie fiel den Stakemen, den Räubern der texanischen Wüste, zum Opfer. Immer wieder treibt der Wunsch nach Rache ihn hinaus in den Llano, wo ein geisterhafter Reiter umgeht, der ein treffsicheres Gewehr in Händen hat. Buck Johnson: The Dragon Drive? is the second short story in the Buck Johnson series. This time Buck and Skeeter and Snort are trailing a herd of dragons to Skrintax. If everything goes as planned, they'll sell the dragons for a good price and finally be able to get off Terul. But things seldom go as planned, especially when dragons are involved.

Quinton, a drifter, stands idly by as a posse wreaks havoc throughout the region. No one is safe--not even cattle--as the gang rides through the hills with murderous intent. However, when the posse points its guns at Quinton, the range explodes into a bloody gun battle.

Never bet more than you can afford to lose. Caroline Pruett should have heeded that advice, because once she lost her stake, there was no going back. Or was there? Desperation has clouded Caroline's judgment, because when she loses King, her thoroughbred stallion, to Micah Sutton in a poker game, the first thing she does is steal him back.
