يعتقد الأكراد أنهم أكبر "أمة" بدون دولة في العالم المعاصر، وهم لم يندمجوا في أي من الدول الموجودين فيها، ولكنهم اجتمعوا تحت اسم (الحركة التحررية القومية الكردية)، وهذه دلالة واضحة على أنهم يشعرون بأن وطنهم محتل، ويعدون هذه الأنظمة السياسية الحاكمة في هذه الدول (سلطات إحتلال).

مع بداية الثورة المصرية ونزول الشباب إلى ميدان التحرير دأب "عمر طاهر" على كتابة مقالاته اليومية والأسبوعية متحدثًا عن الوضع العام، عن الشباب، عن الأمل القادم، عن الوضع السياسي وناقدًا للكثير من الأحداث

"عباقرة ومجانين" هو محاولة لإزالة الأوهام التي تتصل بأمور الثقافة ، فليس صحيحاً أن الثقافة شيء منفصل عن حياة الإنسان بأفراحها وأحزانها المتنوعة، وليس صحيحاً أن المثقفين هم قوم يعيشون في منطقة معزولة عن الدنيا، وأنهم مجموعة من الكهنة الغامضين الذين لا يعرف سرهم أحد، بل الحقيقة أن الثقافة تعبير عن مشاكل الإنسان المادية والمعنوية التي يتعرض لها الناس جميعاً.
