يشتمل هذا الكتاب على النص الحرفي للمقالات السبع التي نشرها إدريس في "جريدة القبس" الكويتية وصحف أخرى خارج مصر. وكتب إدريس افتتاحية لهذا الكتاب بعنوان "البحث عن الحقيقة" كمقدمة لا غنى عنها لفهم الظروف والجو النفسي المرعب الذي قـُصد به إرهاب قارئ هذه المقالات مثلما قـُصد به إرهاب كاتبها وكذلك إرهاب أي كاتب آخر. وموضوع هذه المقالات هو إبرام الرئيس السادات معاهدة كامب ديفيد مع إسرائيل.

لقد كنت أفكر في الأمر بطريقة جديدة تمامًا، فقد اعتدنا أن نناقش مشكلة مصر أو المصريين وكأنها شيء غريب ومجرد. نتحدث عن مصر وكأنها شيء آخر غير البلد الذي نعيش فيه ونملكه ونتحمل مسؤوليته.
