    First Give's Director, Louisa Searle, talks to Manny Oweylu - the Director of The Reach Out Project, and an Educator, speaker and Assistant Head Teacher.

    It was marginalisation and exclusion which he experienced in school that prompted his decision to become a teacher. There weren't many young black teachers to look up to when he was at school, so he decided he needed to become what he didn't have.

    He is passionate about changing the narrative for disadvantaged young people and a big part of helping The Reach Out Project achieve its objective.

    It's vision is to open up London as a city of opportunity for youth and help each young person they support to realise their potential regardless of their background/circumstance.

    In this episode Manny talks to Louisa about how his negative experiences school of led him down his current path, why mentoring is so important, the role of schools in creating a 'charitable culture,' his purpose in being a teacher, and why he now dedicates so much time to sociallly purposeful and charitable work.

    First Give's Director, Louisa Searle, talks to Nathan Dennis - an award-winning social entrepreneur, author, and youth and community specialist consultant.

    He is the Founder and Trustee of First Class Foundation and senior consultant and trainer at Legacy Consultants.

    First Class Foundation is a charity that tackles youth violence and builds mental health resilience through connecting with young people aged 13-25 and introducing them to new opportunities.

    First Class Foundation has six pillars which are: Family, Criminal Justice, Politics, Education, Business and Enterprise and Health. Each Pillar represents the areas where First Class Foundation has influence and opportunities for the target group i.e., training and support in business and enterprise.   Nathan also helps many companies engage, connect, and build lasting relationships with those deemed traditionally hard to reach through Legacy Consultants, which helps companies think about how they engage with diverse communities. Nathan started off his journey as a school speaker, going into schools and sharing his story, transition, change and his transformation.

    In this podcast Nathan talks to Louisa about his difficult childhood and schooldays, how he made a dramatic change of direction in life, and why he now dedicates so much time to sociallly purposeful and charitable work.

    First Give's Director, Louisa Searle, talks to Benjy LookBook - an inclusion and well-being consultant and content creator from south London.

    He has gained a following of over 200,000 people on TikTok and received 4.3 million likes, in just a little over one year on the app, for his educational videos advocating for diversity and inclusion.

    He was named one of TikTok’s UK’s ‘voices for change’ of 2021, a LGBTQIA+ trailblazer for Pride Month and was a part of their ‘this is Black’ campaign for Black History Month.

    He has created a safe and inclusive space for conversations about racism, homophobia, sexism, and mental health. His videos help to broaden understanding, reject binaries, and offer practical advice on how to be inclusive to marginalised communities.

    In this episode Benjy talks to Louisa about his early influences, why he gets involved with charity work and his advice on how to find your charitable purpose.

  • Bastille's Dan Smith appears on The Spark from First Give

    First Give's Director, Louisa Searle, talks to Dan Smith - best known as the founder, lead singer and primary songwriter of the British pop rock band Bastille.

    The band formed in 2010 and gained mass popularity in 2013 when the song "Pompeii" was released with their album Bad Blood. The band then released their second album, Wild World in September 2016. In June 2019, the band released their third album Doom Days.

    On 4 February 2022 Bastille released their fourth studio album - Give Me the Future is - and have been touring the UK and Europe in 2022 in support of the album, including a recent surprise gig at Glastonbury 2022.

    Dan Smith is an ambassador for the First Give charity and has long been involved in various social causes and charities.

    In 2014, Dan Smith took part in the Band Aid charity single, "Do They Know It's Christmas?".

    In 2017, he participated in the Grenfell Tower charity song, "Bridge Over Troubled Water".

    In this podcast Dan talks to Louisa about his early influences, why he gets involved with charity work and how he decides which ones to work with.
