  • Rain, Rain, Go Away
    May 24 2025

It remains quite remarkable the number of gadgets and gizmos that any automobile or truck comes standardly equipped with in the year 2025. I can get an aerial, 360-degree view of my surroundings to make sure I am safely backing out of my garage. I can type-in GPS coordinates for a vacation destination and know, to the minute, when my family and I will arrive safely to where we’re going. All of the modern amenities that you could possibly wish for, but, still, an unexpected invention from the turn of the 20th-century remains to be one of the most crucial to safe and stress-free drive than any of these.

  • Flash In The Pan
    May 17 2025

The Missing Chapter is taking you out to the ballgame! Now, this isn’t the first time that we’ve delved into the baseball diamond or the vast list of characters who help make up it’s colorful, storied past, but today’s episode is different and sure to surprise even the most avid of baseball fans:

August 24th, 1919 and the crowd roars as Cleveland pitcher, Ray Caldwell and his teammates, take the field at League Park. Caldwell is on the mound, and the cheers only get louder because Cleveland fans know what’s at stake for the right-hander: He has just been waived by the Red Sox, and the pulse of his once-promising career had all but flatlined prior to that day. This is his last gasp and early on… it’s apparent he’s got his best stuff working.

But as the clouds began to roll in off of Lake Erie and the skies darkened and the winds stiffened, no one, especially Caldwell, could have predicted what happened next… more accurately, what struck next, and how it would affect his career and his life.

An especially “shocking” story and what you’ve come to know and love from the Missing Chapter Podcast. “Play Ball!”

  • Let's (Lo) Go!
    May 10 2025

Hey everyone, today on the Missing Chapter Podcast, we take a deeper look at some items we look at every single day, without ever asking ourselves what they are and what they mean. My esteemed colleague and friend over here, Phil Horender, talked about one of these iconic symbols in S4E15 and it became one of our top 5 most listened to episodes - the history of the Bluetooth icon! So we’re on to something here and we want to take a closer look at some other iconic logos. We see these random icons, symbols, brands, all over the place, but what do they mean and where in the world did they come from? Don’t you dare go to Google right now, stay on with the Phils. Welcome to the MC everyone, let’s lo-go.

  • History's Forgotten Runner
    May 3 2025

Ok Missing Chapter fans, how many of you enjoy participating in and watching sports? If you’re a sports fan, like the Phils here, then you can sit down at the end of a work day and decompress by watching your favorite team, or watch a random game with a random team just because of the entertainment value. What is it that draws us in? How is it that I can watch the OIympics till the middle of the night without blinking an eyelash, with a sport that I’ve never heard of before? I think it’s because as former athletes, we appreciate and are amazed at the time, dedication, and practicing profound skill sets that athletes of all shapes and sizes are willing to put their bodies through in order to pursue perfection. It’s unbelievable what the human body is capable of if we’re willing to be disciplined and endure the painful grind of practicing a skill day in and day out. And that’s the idea for today’s episode. Someone who history has already forgotten, but someone who, by doing daily activities by trade, became one of the most elite athletes and in one of the most obscure ways, became legendary. Well we haven’t forgotten him, and oh, we haven’t forgotten our coffee either. So turn up the volumes, get a couple more reps on your treadmills, and try to keep up with today’s Missing Chapter Profile.

  • The Odds Were SAXed Against Him
    Apr 26 2025

His life is remarkable enough to be considered for an episode of the Missing Chapter Podcast. His innate ability to cheat death can only be rivaled by a figure in history like a Gregory Rasputin. As a child, it’s reported, that he survived a fall of some three-stories, he drank acidic water that he mistook for milk, swallowed a rather large needle, was hit on the head by a large stone, suffered severe burns from a gunpowder explosion, fell into a river and nearly drowned, and, yes, went on to invent one of the most significant, popular musical instruments the world has ever seen…. Phew. Oh, and we haven’t even gotten to his invention that changed the world’s culture like no one could have predicted!

Quite the list and quite the life on the podcast you’ve come to expect these incredible stories from. Settle in with your favorite cup of coffee and maybe turn on a little light jazz music in the background as we play another melody, here on the Missing Chapter.

  • What The Helmet?
    Apr 19 2025

Have you ever had an idea that in your mind sounds great, but in reality, the execution doesn’t really pan out successfully? I think we’ve all been there. Take out an ingredient in a recipe, and exchange it for what you think would be an upgrade…turns out to be the most vile thing you’ve ever tasted. A shortcut that makes sense in your head, but ends up adding double the time and three times the frustration. Or how about a gentleman at the beginning of WWI that had an incredibly innovative idea for a new weapon…the difference being that from the onset, any outsider on planet earth would be able to tell that this is not a good idea at all. But let’s talk about that idea, let’s put our heads together and see if we can analyze this till our heads hurt, and then once the headache comes on, drink some more coffee. Welcome to the MC Podcast, everyone, let’s get started.

  • Just Roll With It
    Apr 12 2025

Have you ever skipped stones before? You know, going to a body of water, finding the flattest stones you can gather, and side-arming the disc shaped rocks like you’re an MLB submarine pitcher. I don’t know about you, but my goal was always 3, let’s see if we can skip it 3 times in a row. Anything under that, failure, anything over that, celebration. I guess that’s what you did before the advent of technology and cell phones, but this idea is actually the concept of this episode. How you might be asking? Well, the skipping stones concept was not only a concept, it was a viable military strategy in WWII by the British Air Force. Yup, you heard me right. And you’re about to hear the coffee pour, because it’s that time again, and it’s time to get started.

  • Ice Cream Sunday
    Apr 5 2025

It’s almost that time again, everyone - warm weather, the glowing orb in the sky is back, no more gray all day, and one of the go-to’s for cooling down on a hot, summer day - ice cream. You can have ice cream all year round, right? But can you have soft serve all year round in upstate NY? I guess, but it’s just not the same. In our household, soft serve is reserved for summer months only. Like a good iced coffee for my MC colleague over here, summer only. Well, my excitement for this summer dairy delight got me thinking…where does one of the most popular summer desserts originate? Oh, don’t you dare go to google, go to the Phils on the Missing Chapter Podcast. Grab your coffees everyone, it’s time for another episode of the MC.
