  • Vascular Health Demystified - Talk with Dr Arun Pherwani and Dr. Sagorika Mullick
    Jun 29 2025

In this engaging and insightful episode of The Health Talk, I sit down with my long-time friend and one of the most experienced vascular surgeons in the UK, Dr. Arun Pherwani, who brings over 30 years of hands-on experience working in top NHS trust hospitals.
Vascular surgery is a field that many people know very little about—until they or a loved one suddenly need it. This conversation helps demystify what vascular surgeons do and how their work is critical to many areas of medicine.
We begin by exploring the core areas of vascular surgery—arterial diseases like aneurysms, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), diabetic ulcers and venous conditions such as varicose veins and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Dr. Pherwani explains how early warning signs can be subtle, but if caught in time, many of these conditions are completely manageable or preventable.
A major highlight of our discussion is the role of lifestyle in vascular health. From smoking cessation, regular walking, and weight management to blood sugar and cholesterol control, Dr. Pherwani emphasizes how lifestyle choices directly impact the health of our arteries and veins. His practical tips make it clear that simple, everyday habits can go a long way in preventing serious vascular problems later in life.
Dr. Pherwani also shares eye-opening insights into how vascular surgeons don’t just treat diseases of the arteries and veins. Their skills are often required in emergency medicine, trauma surgery, diabetic foot care, wound healing, dialysis access for kidney patients, organ transplantations and even in cancer care where major blood vessels may be involved. This makes them key collaborators across multiple disciplines of modern healthcare.
Throughout the episode, we talk about:
The signs and symptoms of arterial and venous diseases
When to see a vascular surgeon
The latest non-invasive and minimally invasive treatment options
How vascular surgery has evolved in the last few decades
The vital role of vascular surgeons in saving limbs and saving lives
Dr. Pherwani’s calm, compassionate, and informative style will not only educate you but also encourage you to take charge of your vascular health starting today.
    🎯 Call to Action (CTA):
If you or someone you know suffers from leg pain, swelling, varicose veins, or has a history of diabetes or smoking—don’t ignore the warning signs.

  • Don't be HYPER - be TENSION free - Talk with Dr. Sagorika Mullick
    Jan 7 2025

HYPERTENSION or High Blood Pressure is also known as the SILENT KILLER as most of the times it does not give any clear symptoms and can sometimes lead to sudden cardiac death. The diagnosis of high BP is usually neglected and majority of the people even after they are diagnosed refuse to accept it and go into a denial phase. Due to this they have a higher chance of landing up with complications like a heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and blindness. Hypertension is easy to diagnose and treat. We just need to take the condition seriously, understand its importance, monitor our blood pressures regularly, make the necessary life style changes and be compliant with medicines, if they are needed so that we can keep our blood pressure under control and live a healthy and complication free life.
