  • Marketing for creatives and freelancers
    Mar 24 2020

A lot of creatives overlook the fact that they are a 'product' or 'personal brand' and like all products you will do better in some markets than others, and like all products you need to clearly show what you have to offer and also upskill/learn new 'features' sometimes to secure the work you want.

In a nutshell, your skills and all you have to offer are inside the box and the way in which you market yourself is the package and advertising.

Marketing is the backbone of you as a business! Your talents and your skills are what secure you the job but we need to get you out there and seen by the people you want to be seen. There is no point in having an amazing product but no one seeing it or only the wrong people are seeing it.

As multifaceted individuals you have lots to offer, whether that is the classic triple threat, dancer and PT, performer and dance school owner, writer and lecturer, actor and producer and so on.

This episodes breaks down what marketing is for creatives and a few ways in which you can market yourself and your skills to make money.

    Mar 31 2020

Welcome to third episode of The Business of Show Business and on this episode I talk about making sure the in person you matches who you are online.

Making sure there isn't a disconnect from who the person the audition panel or interview panel meet to who they find when they search for you online.

Whether you like or not you more than likely have an online presence, so you really need to take control of your online presence and make sure people are seeing the right things about you.

If you want to know more about marketing or solidifying yourself as an expert in your field then you will want to check out the first two episodes.

  • What to Post on Social Media for performers and creatives
    Apr 14 2020

On today's solo show I will be talking about what to post online.

A key phrase I hear from creatives, especially performers, is 'I don't know what to post' or 'I am in between jobs and don't have anything worth talking about.'

I have said it before and I will say it again the keyword in social media is SOCIAL. You have so much value to offer so don't be put off or get to in your head about it. Those that matter won't mind and those that mind don't matter.

As a creative and freelancer being on social media is like your taxs - whether you like it or not you have to do it and hopefully after this episode you will feel ok about posting.

I also give you 10 ideas to help you generate content to post on social media.

It's worth giving a listen to Episode Two on Online Presence and also Episode One on marketing if you are still in the process of coming up with a marketing strategy.

Don't forget to reach out to me on social media if there is a topic you want covered, let's connect and have a conversation.

  • The Freelancer's Toolkit
    Apr 28 2020

On this episode I go through the freelancer's toolkit.

Skills you need and skills you may have that you don't realise you have.

The title of this episode was initially inspired by a panel and Q&A I was invited to be on as a guest expert a little while ago by Mousetrap Theatre Projects. However, lately I have been asked some similar questions or have been asked to speak on other guest panels about utilising our skills so I thought my podcast would be a great place to share that with everyone.

On this episode I talk about the entrepreneurial skills all creatives, performers and freelancers have, even if they are unaware they have them.

The importance of mentoring and how every creative needs a mentor, coach or someone to inspire them and also keep them in check.

As well as tackling networking, goal setting, seizing opportunities and creating your own as well as setting your own work parameters.

Episode one - Marketing for Creatives

    Episode three - Online presence
