Welcome to the Suffer Up podcast, and thank you for viewing our page! We are Nate and Ryan, who both have spent our lives doing hard things to challenge ourselves and help others. Our mission is to encourage and lead others to suffer with a purpose. We strive to help others level up in life with an emphasis on spiritual, mental and physical wellbeing. Our goal is to deliver consistent, quality content related to those three pillars. Nate is a Firefighter Paramedic with over 10 years of related experience in public safety. He enjoys the great outdoors including hunting, fishing, running, and working out. He is a follower of Christ, husband, father, co-worker, and church member who has a passion to share his story and motivate others to be the best version of themselves as possible. Several years back, Nate suffered from a lot of work-related trauma that he openly shares in this podcast, and how he overcame those challenges. Nate has a passion to help others in this area as he continues to challenge himself in the three pillars here at Suffer UP. Ryan is a former US Navy Aviation Rescue Swimmer of 8 years and now owns an excavation and landscaping company. He is a follower of Christ, a devoted husband, and a loving father who enjoys swimming, running, hiking, and anything outdoors. Ryan has always felt called to help others and has a passion for teaching. He hopes to use his gifts and experiences to encourage others to suffer with a purpose and overcome life’s challenges.Copyright 2025 All rights reserved. EP#12 Wheelchair to Ultra Marathon, Power of the Mind, Skunk Ape 50mile Finisher

    Scott Dykes Publishings

    Skunk Ape Ultra Marathon

We are honored and thankful for this episode with Scott Dykes. Mr. Dykes found himself in a very difficult time in life. He was involved in a very traumatic vehicle accident and was told by the doctors, "You will never walk again." Mr Dykes shares, very transparently, what that phrase did for him and what he did to achieve a high level of accomplishment. He started with only being able to move his toes, to walking, to running 2 miles, to finishing a marathon, to then later finishing the Skunk Ape 50mile Ultra Marathon! Mr. Dykes is also an author of several books and is currently working on another book. Please enjoy this episode of the Suffer Up Podcast! As Mr. Dykes said in this episode, "I still haven't found my ceiling yet...I am not fast, but I never quit." You are sure to enjoy this one! Thank you Mr. Dykes!

Each challenge we keep in mind our slogan "Kill it or Will it" - this comes from the idea that sometimes you're trained and ready for the competition and you "kill it." Other times, the unexpected happens and you have to "will it" to get it done. On this episode of the Suffer Up Podcast, Nate and Ryan discuss Mentorship, Leadership, and Discipleship. We just skim the surface on this episode, however we clearly defined what that is to us and some tools to be not only an effective leader, but also a good follower. We share some of the biblical principals of being a good leader, student, follower, and disciple. We hope you enjoy todays show! Please share and like our show and please feel free to reach out to us with any related content or review.
