  • Gretchen Devault of The Blue Herons Fifth Anniversary Show
    Jul 7 2025

Thanks to Gretchen Devault for taking the time to put together this wonderful one hour set of music for The Eardrum Buzz Radio Fifth Anniversary.

The Blue Herons are Andy Jossi (The Churchhill Garden, The Serpent Garden) and Gretchen DeVault (The Icicles, The Francine Odysseys, Voluptuous Panic, Hero No Hero). The jangle pop duo formed in late 2020 and have since released multiple singles and a full-length album in 2024 and is set to release another full-length album in 2026.

The Blue Herons started as a side project for Jossi. After building a following with his shoegaze band The Churchhill Garden, he wanted a separate outlet for his jangle pop songs. The Blue Herons featured guest vocalists and musicians including Krissy Vanderwoude (The Churchhill Garden, Whimsical), Marty Willson Piper (The Church, All About Eve), Hideka, and Thierry Haliniak. While releasing music under The Blue Herons name and looking for the right vocal partner, Jossi connected with DeVault.

DeVault has been active in the indie pop and dream pop scene for years. She led The Icicles through several albums and secured licensing deals with Target and Motorola in the early 2000s. In 2013, she formed the transoceanic shoegaze duo Voluptuous Panic with Brian Bowe. After moving to LA in 2016, she returned to her indie pop background and formed The Francine Odysseys releasing two EPs and a single. DeVault is also part of Hero No Hero with Ken Aki, which released an EP in 2020 and a full-length album in 2024.

  • Gunnar Malmquist, aka DJ Mqt Presents: The Sporgersi Shoegazette Popup Show
    Jul 7 2025

Gunnar moves around the same circles on Facebook as I and we connected recently over our love for music. I sent him a mug, which broke on transit (I've fixed that problem now) and then sent him a shirt. Both times he sent back pictures which you can see in our Store at www.eardrumbuzz.net

Being the great guy that he is, Gunnar took the time to send me an hour show of some of his favorite newer and older tunes for Eardrum Buzz Radio's Fifth Anniversary, held July 4th-6th. I hope you enjoy it!

    Gunnar Malmquist presents “Sporgersi Shoegazette”

Gunnar Malmquist (Uppsala, Sweden) is a former chromatographer, now retired but definitely not tired. DJ Mqt loves shoegaze, indiepop and almost anything "in between". Struggles with learning to play guitar as a complete beginner at age 65 (any advice is obviously welcome) and runs Vinylkultur Rekords with his friends in Vinylkultur Uppsala.

  • DJ Jimi C's Fifth Anniversary Show
    Jul 7 2025

Jim Biggs, singer and guitarist for Seattle's Black Nite Crash first came to my attention when I was writing for Highwire Daze magazine, way before I started Eardrum Buzz Radio. Their music is intelligent and rocking and I always look forward to hearing their next album. Jim is also a live DJ and just as he was sending his new show for our Fifth Anniversary, he was preparing to DJ for Waves Crashing at the Crypt in Olympia, WA. Thanks Jim for years of great shows for Eardrum Buzz Radio!

About the DJ: Jimi C (aka Jim Biggs) is the Shoegaze Soothsayer of Seattle, having fronted scene stalwarts Black Nite Crash for over 20 years. Raconteur and Man About Town (or at least he was until the pandemic), he also continues to DJ in bars and clubs and at least once a year on Eardrum Buzz Radio. Black Nite Crash most recent LP, Signal to Noise, is available to listen to on Youtube and all your favorite streamers, but, perhaps more importantly, is also on Bandcamp, where the artist actually gets paid. You can check it out, as well as the lengthy Black Nite Crash discography, at blacknitecrash.bandcamp.com. (There’s free stuff there, too!!!)

Black Nite Crash is presently working hard on their next album, but will pause to play a couple of festivals this September: Tremolo (Seattle) and Dreamgaze (Portland) along with many other Shoe-gazey-noisy-dreamy-psychedelic favorites (including Brief Candles, Guest Directors, Kallai, Mo Dotti, Mumrunner, Pink Breath of Heaven, Ten Million Lights, bloococoon, The Asteroid #4, New Age Healers, Topographies and several others.

  • Head Trip With Kelvyn Williams 5th Anniversary Show
    Jul 7 2025

Head Trip 5th Anniversary Weekend Show – Kelvyn Williams

Head Trip is a two-hour radio show hosted by Kelvyn Williams that showcases underground, eclectic music, spanning post-punk, shoegaze, indie, experimental, genre-blurring music. The show leans heavily into DIY, avant-garde and alternative tracks with its wide-ranging, leftfield taste. You’ll find rare cuts, obscure gems, ambient experiments and bold new names. In short, Head Trip is a deep-dive experience of underground music discovery, perfect for music explorers and fans of alternative audio journeys.

Kelvyn did 50 Head Trip shows for Eardrum Buzz Radio and then decided to take a break from his regular fortnightly shows but has come back to the station for occasional one-offs, such as best of the year and anniversary shows.

Kelvyn has been in bands or recorded solo material throughout his life, appearing on S4C (the Welsh-language TV channel in the UK) as the rhythm guitarist of Welsh-language band Angladd Huwcyn, who released a successful album back in 1989. Kelvyn then went on to promote Welsh-language gigs in North Wales and has also promoted gigs in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Kelvyn has also worked for a major music promoter in Northern Ireland, putting on gigs as varied as Enon, JohnAbercrombie, The Unthanks, Lau, The Thing, Polar Bear, Dirty Projectors and lots more.

Kelvyn also records as mwydu, and electronic/noise/experimental project and in The Heavy Light Experiment, a duo with Georgia-based artist Albert Gresens. They have released a few tracks through the Sashimmy Records label. Mwydu’s output has mainly been self-released through Bandcamp but he also released the Ymyriadau Effeithiol EP in April 2018, which was the second release on Brighton’s Shore Dive Records label. The five track EP blends electronic drone, improvised rock, acid techno and dub tinged bass. Inspiration was drawn from 1970s hard rock, the quiet ambience of small seaside living, and experimental distorted electronic drums. Critics described it as “a long EP full of ominous dark techno landscapes” and “an expression of a chaotically intellectual musicologist’s mind”.

Mwydu has also remixed Beatastic’s Nothing Will Be The Same Next Year and Aura Zorba’s The Searcher, both released through Shore Dive Records.

    Kelvyn’s all-time favourites:
