So Why Am I here? Well, I once listened to a TED talk by Barry Schwartz. This man does not provide me with tips; he gave me a lifestyle. I was 20 when I listened to him and now I am 25 and listening to him again.
When you start listening to this course, you will find that Barry talks about capitalism. Have you ever listened to a personal development coach who starts his speech by talking about capitalism?
I believe that happiness is a dreamy word. Wisdom needs us to be old enough to gain it. We work long hours in a modern slavery world. However, As Barry said, “Nothing in life is as important as you think when you pay attention to it.” Happiness, wisdom, and work are not important. Life itself is what is important; the details can change but life itself remains the same.
In other words, nothings matters; it is only a matter of the choices and decisions we make when we reach a fork in the road.
I wanted this style of personal development. I wanted someone who understands my problems and gives me a path. Someone who is old enough so that I can trust his words. Someone who talks from a scientific point of view. Professor Barry seems to be who I always wanted to tell me about life.
Thank you, Barry, for being one of the best persons I have ever known.
It Isn’t About Tips; This Is Life

Wisdom is a tricky thing, but here, it’s explored in a way as to make it less of a mystical knowledge only old people have and more of a sensible way of approaching the world.Highly recommended.

He pulls back the layers of our assumptions inherited from our understandings of democracy and free market economics, to examine how and why we work as well as how that has changed over time. In a world where many are unfulfilled in their jobs/careers, Barry Schwartz offers an interesting take on why we are so unhappy, what makes us happy, and how we can change.
This program balances (balance itself being a key concept in the course) theory and abstract principles with concrete and pragmatic examples that enliven the discussion.
I would recommend this course to most people as most people have a vested interest in their own happiness and fulfillment, both work-related and personal. This program could be important for workers looking for greater satisfaction from life and work, as well as for employers looking to better morale within the workforce.
An interesting analysis of how and why we work.
