This is an all-consuming story, one which makes you care what happens to the people.
Vikings were known throughout the world. They travelled far, reaching many countries. In previous times, Vikings were portrayed as mindless killers, but contrary to belief, apart from their enemies, to whom they showed no mercy, they are known to have integrated with various cultures in many places. Viking culture was the only one of that time to ensure their women were respected and given an equal place in Viking society.

The author's pervasive use of reverse-scrambled prepositional phrases in combination with the narrator's cadence and tone just do not compliment each other. The narrator tends to read 3-4 words at a time with her own pauses injected awkwardly into the text which produces a choppy presentation. This book may be a good 'read' but I cannot recommend the audio format.
The story does not lack inter-personal drama, but it takes place in an almost nondescript environment.
