love the writing and story but the constant mispronouncing of jarl, jotun, Valkyrie just break the immersion. changed narrators since the previous book, sigh. I'm still listening but the quality has dropped.

Seeing how it doesn’t have a set doctrine or dogma, there is no way to best practice Norse paganism. There is also no scripture or a “holy book”, which makes it ideal for people who wish to feel free and authentic to themselves while practicing spirituality. The way Norse paganism is practiced vastly varies from region to region, and there is no “correct” way to practice it. However, it still involves adhering to some tenets, customs, and beliefs. This book offers a comprehensive exploration of modern Norse paganism.

the narrator sounds like some inhuman text-to-speech translator which mispronounces words and has machine-like phrase timing and pauses where they shouldn't be. beyond that MUCH of the information is just wrong. if you ask me, this was written by an automated SQL database which was fed tons of good and bad data and just misses the mark.
not worth the money.

Experience the awesomeness of my unexpected voyage to an undiscovered land where I survive shipwrecks, arena death match spectacles, rampaging rhinoceraptors, naked and rather surly giants, and even dragons! Well, a dragon.... All in my pursuit of fame and glory. Every word of it is true. Totally true. How do I know? Because it's all about me. Gustav Gustavson, Legendary Viking Warrior.

you want this one!
Revisado: 10-16-22
I have listened to many audible books and while some of them have a good story The narrator can stifle that story to the point where it's almost unlistenable. in other cases the story will be mediocre and even a good narrator cannot resuscitate it.
The Totally True Adventures of Gustav Gustavson has a rare combination of an excellent narrator and a very entertaining story.
It is a rare case that an audible story can have me laughing in my car as I am stuck in traffic. you want the experience of this story and we can all hope that there are sequels to this one.

Historia
A fresh account of some of history's greatest warriors. The Vikings had an extraordinary and far-reaching historical impact. From the eighth to the 11th centuries, they ranged across Europe - raiding, exploring, and colonizing - and their presence was felt as far away as Russia and Byzantium. They are most famous as warriors, yet perhaps their talent for warfare is too little understood.

endlessly dry

someone needs to do a health and welfare check on the narrator. he may have passed away a few years before this was produced. Siri or Google text to speech speak with more inflection and personality.
the content is accurate but without linkage or notable progression. I know it was free, so there is only so much criticism that can be given.
it reminds me of a robot reading me the phone book whitepages (If you remember what those were).

Historia
Mixing a bit of seventeenth-century French history with a great deal of invention, Alexandre Dumas tells the tale of young D'Artagnan and his musketeer comrades, Porthos, Athos, and Aramis. Together they fight to foil the schemes of the brilliant, dangerous Cardinal Richelieu, who pretends to support the king while plotting to advance his own power. Bursting with swirling swordplay, swooning romance, and unforgettable figures.

best narration performance
Revisado: 06-26-19
I have listen to many audiobooks on many different services. this narrator really nailed the tone, inflection, and characteristics of all the different roles in a fluid and seemingly effortless style. I wish he read all my audiobooks. if you are a narrator, use this performance as your rubric to examine your own!
Of course the story is well known classic and I cannot add much to the common-knowledge evaluations of its quality other than to add my own A++ to it.

just a romance novel
Revisado: 05-16-19
could not quite finish. No viking in it, the story could have taken place in chicago. if you want a romance novel then this is for you, but personally I would prefer the protagonist to have a reason for their actions.

Historia
Fresh in its originality When Norse Winds Blow is an engrossing journey into the era of the much-maligned Vikings. Vikings were known throughout the world. They travelled far, reaching many countries. In previous times, Vikings were portrayed as mindless killers, but contrary to belief, apart from their enemies, to whom they showed no mercy, they are known to have integrated with various cultures in many places. Viking culture was the only one of that time to ensure their women were respected and given an equal place in Viking society.

I cannot recommend this audiobook
Revisado: 03-10-19
I am a voracious reader and commute approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes each day. I supplement my reading desire with great number of audio books and have heard some wonderful combinations of author and narrator- 'When Norse Winds Blow' is not among that group.
The author's pervasive use of reverse-scrambled prepositional phrases in combination with the narrator's cadence and tone just do not compliment each other. The narrator tends to read 3-4 words at a time with her own pauses injected awkwardly into the text which produces a choppy presentation. This book may be a good 'read' but I cannot recommend the audio format.
The story does not lack inter-personal drama, but it takes place in an almost nondescript environment.

Historia
Summer comes to Ireland, and an uneasy peace holds at Loch Garman. The Northmen, eager to get to sea, work relentlessly on their ships, with the aid of their unlikely allies, the Irish, who are just as eager to see them go. But not everyone is willing to just let them sail away. Certain that God demands the heathens be punished, the one-eyed warrior turned monk Brother Becc is determined that Thorgrim and his men will not simply go free. And when another band of raiders arrives, Becc finds the excuse he needs to take action.
