*A TIMES CRIME CLUB PICK OF THE WEEK*
Everyone in this town has a secret. But who holds the key to the loch…?
Twenty years ago, three young women disappeared, never to be found. The rumour to this day is that their bodies are still hidden deep within the murky Loch Aven.
When Eleanor, Clio and Michaela find themselves rained out of a camping trip in the Scottish countryside, they have no option but to book the mysterious house nestled on the banks of the lake. But little do they know that history has a way of repeating itself.
As secrets in the tightknit community begin to surface, and Michaela suddenly disappears, it becomes clear that something sinister is at play. And now it’s a race against time to unravel the mystery before the dark waters claim their next victim…
A claustrophobic, eerie and atmospheric thriller perfect for fans of Lucy Foley and Sarah Pearse.

This was just what I was looking for!

For the second time, I’ll stand corrected.
This book was SO much better the second time around.
The characters are not necessarily likable but they are relatable and the story is definitely creepy as hell.
It’s a baffling mystery with a compelling ending that is very well thought out and very well crafted.
I just wish there had been more descriptive elements of the actual loch and the house.
It was lacking in this area; one could go on for days with an enormous Scottish loch that has many mysteries associated with it.
Same with the house, a house that’s had no guests for 20+ years and stands so close to the water that it is almost a part of it.
There could have been pages (or at least paragraphs) of prose associated with each.
However, what remains is a truly mind boggling mystery with interesting parallels and interesting characters and locations.
I loved it the second time.
I would encourage anyone to give certain books in their libraries a second pass, because you could find yourself shocked by how differently you receive the book at a different time and under different circumstances.
The narration is wonderful.
Definitely worth a credit!
Had to Come Back and Edit Review After 2nd Reading

The heroine of the book is just passive throughout the book. "I didn't know what to do" she repeats over and over, and she never does do very much. I kept thinking she was going to pull it together and figure things out, but she remains an emotional wreck throughout the whole book. There were good things about her and about the story, but her passivity grated on me, and after I finished, I wished I hadn't spent the time. Won't read this author again.
Intriguing Setup, but Couldn't Stomach the Heroine
