Acerca de esta escucha

All the best in humanity rises to meet a powerful alien threat in the sequel to Salvation - part of an all-new trilogy from "the owner of the most powerful imagination in science fiction" (Ken Follett).

The comparative utopia of 23rd-century Earth is about to go dreadfully awry when a seemingly benign alien race is abruptly revealed to be one of the worst threats humanity has ever faced. Driven by an intense religious extremism, the Olyix are determined to bring everyone to their version of god as they see it. But they may have met their match in humanity, who are not about to go gently into that good night or spend the rest of their days cowering in hiding. As human ingenuity and determination rises to the challenge, collective humanity has only one goal - to wipe this apparently undefeatable enemy from the face of creation. Even if it means playing a ridiculously long game indeed.

But in a chaotic universe, it is hard to plan for every eventuality, and it is always darkest before the dawn.

Gets a little confusing at times but if you like your space opera straight up, with lots of shit blowing up, this is for you.

Space opera feast

Listened to this book hoping it would be better than book 1, it was, but not sure I will take the time to listen to book 3. My listening style is to engage while doing menial tasks- this book was amped up to speed 1.5x to power through. The lurid SciFi sex scenes added nothing (I'm not a prude) and the plot was slow, scenes changes hard to follow.

Just too complicated for casual listening

very well done. good character building throughout. as always, well done Mr. Hamilton for your writing.

Clicking in the recording of this series, both books now have it is really distracting, have never heard it before and it is becoming very annoying. Perhaps it is the editing sound as they go over the recording of John lee. His cadence is always a distraction but seems worse in these books, I will read the books from now on of Hamilton, John Lee is too difficult to understand. I like Hamilton but Lee...

"CLICKING Sound" in recording

Salvation Lost is Peter F Hamilton's 2nd installment in the Salvation Sequence series. With humanity recognizing the alien benefactors (Olyix) are in fact hellbent on capturing each human for an eventual offering to their god at the end of time, plans are put in motion in conjunction with another alien species that has dealt with the Olyix previously. Their advice is to run and hide, but humanity is not intent on going quietly into the night. Intermixed is a local gang of quasi-criminals believing to be doing odd jobs, but unknowingly working for the other side, as well as a connected family member who relates the alien invasion. Finally, there is a parallel tale, interspersed, 10,000 years in the future that is remnant of humanity still fighting the good fight who also encounter an entirely new player from Earth's distant past.

Hamilton continues much of the sci-fi elements from the first installment with the K-cells from the Olyix that were medical miracles turning out to be the mechanism for human subjugation in a most horrible manner. The 10k year advanced human have evolved considerably, while the development of neuroviruses allows for control of neural networks. The plan to destroy the Olyix takes shape, although they continue to be portrayed as a nearly unstoppable force.

John Lee's performance is simply spectacular and offers a wide range of characters with excellent distinction of both genders. His pacing and tone are perfectly aligned with the overall plot to result in pure ear candy delight that borders on diabetic coma levels of enjoyment.

Humanity's undoing

It is an absolute ride of a novel, full of memorable characters and incredible ideas. This series starts off with an incredible premise and finishes with a colossal bang.

Another abaolute banger from PFH.

Book 2 in the series does not disappoint. Many characters and story threads skillfully told and woven together. I still HATE how John Lee voices 90 percent of the female characters. His male voices are very good but with one or two exceptions his female character voice choices are just horrid, demeaning, wishwashy, grating... as if that is what he thinks women are. He has a deep voice so maybe women characters are tough for him but....

As always Hamilton’s vision of the future and alien contact is fascinating and compelling.

Book 2 just as good

This was great. I got through this alot quicker then book 1. Definatly more fast paced. The only critique i would give it is the narration, if you havent read the first book or if your not really paying attention the voices and characters start to sound all the same, espescially the males.

loved it!

An "Elevating" experience. I enjoyed author's previous works as well. He writes in a good mix of dread, body horror, positive hype, hope, and good old human spirit.

I enjoy this author and narrator

As usual, the world building and multiple interesting storylines of this Peter F. Hamilton story makes for a perfect grand opera. The only issue I have with this book is the ending felt very cut off, and this book seemed short compared to other Hamilton books. The way this book ended felt like the publisher made the author change this 2 book series into a trilogy, so the author had to make a sudden stop to be able to produce the third book.

Short, but great continuation
