Acerca de esta escucha

This program includes a prologue and epilogue read by the author.

From New York Times culture reporter Dave Itzkoff comes the definitive audiobook biography of Robin Williams - a compelling portrait of one of America’s most beloved and misunderstood entertainers.

From his rapid-fire stand-up comedy riffs to his breakout role in Mork & Mindy and his Academy Award-winning performance in Good Will Hunting, Robin Williams was a singularly innovative and beloved entertainer. He often came across as a man possessed, holding forth on culture and politics while mixing in personal revelations - all with mercurial, tongue-twisting intensity as he inhabited and shed one character after another with lightning speed.

But as Dave Itzkoff shows in this revelatory biography, Williams’ comic brilliance masked a deep well of conflicting emotions and self-doubt, which he drew upon in his comedy and in celebrated films like Dead Poets Society; Good Morning, Vietnam; The Fisher King; Aladdin; and Mrs. Doubtfire, where he showcased his limitless gift for improvisation to bring to life a wide range of characters. And in Good Will Hunting he gave an intense and controlled performance that revealed the true range of his talent.

Itzkoff also shows how Williams struggled mightily with addiction and depression - topics he discussed openly while performing and during interviews - and with a debilitating condition at the end of his life that affected him in ways his fans never knew. Drawing on more than a hundred original interviews with family, friends, and colleagues as well as extensive archival research, Robin is a fresh and original look at a man whose work touched so many lives.

Superb job! This biography truly brought all the facets of Robin Williams’ life out on display, where those of us who’ve admired and even “loved” Robin Williams over the years could pick them up adoringly, like some of his most cherished toy soldiers, look at them, marvel, and respectfully return them to their rightful places.

David Itzcoff’s portrayal of Robin captured the man, the father, the husband, the comedian, actor, and philanthropist as best one can possibly ever capture an ephemeral being. He made me feel Robin Williams’ presence all over again, and made me miss him all the more. If only by our will we could have created another ending...

Thank you, Mr. Itzkoff, for bringing him back to us all one more time.

This book seem to have all the pieces well put together. Robin Williams was an amazing man who was not boastful but seem to be loving and caring to all mankind. I had to listen to it all the way straight through I could not stop it was a wonderful book to garden by and just be on the bay enjoying the peacefulness of my home

I cried I laughed I cried and I laughed some more and found that I love Robin’s family!

narrator continuously mispronounced Marin county as Mare-un county. very annoying and odd. it is Ma- Rinne, a cent on the first syllable.

This book was the perfect tome to recount the life of Robin Williams. I learned a lot about him as person, was gifted with amazing anecdotes, and felt very emotional when listening to his struggles. This book is just another account of how we all share similar human experiences. And the icing on the cake was a Fred Berman's performance. He has a gift and was really able to capture the essence of Robin. Hands down, this was one of the audiobooks I've heard in a long time.

Excellent Book, Excellent Narration Performance

I am a fan of Robin's more serious work (Dead Poet's and Good Will Hunting are in my top 10 all time faves). He always seemed so poignant when he played it straight. Posthumously this book was approached with some trepidation as one cannot be clear on whether the subject would have approved of the storytelling. However, there is a lot of insight into this man. He had such an eccentric life, upper middle class upbringing (who knew!) and struggling comic uprising. I felt like he was always so lovely and affable in his presentation in interviews (and movies), but inside he was a fragile soul who never accepted success and the amount of love the world had for his work outside the Hollywood bubble. What really came through this telling was that being a celebrity is the worst, but not in a "woe is me" kind of obnoxious way, but in the way that means Robin really lost himself to the criticism, box office success/failure and pressures of the business. It does seem to ruin as much as it creates. That said, I loved the insight about some of the best lines in my favourite movies and how Robin basically ad-libbed them - which just goes to show his level of genius. I didn't laugh so much as I cried listening to this book; but it was worth the read. #Biographical #Informative #TearJerker #ShowBusiness #Movies #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

You’ve been a part of me for 40 years. In so many ways you’re still becoming more a part of me. I hope when I get to where you are we can float together for 40 million more.

I don’t blame you. You have every right to the choice you made. It’s just how we had to lose you. We were never going to be able to keep you forever. I hope your last thoughts were of the beautiful family you created with the help of two wonderful women.

If anyone ever tells me that I’m trying to be like you on stage, I hope the truth is I’m not trying. I am so much like you and this book helped me to truly see that. Mork was my biggest roll model. How could I not be? I will always love you.

I love you Robin!!!
