Acerca de esta escucha

Simon's memoir reveals her remarkable life, beginning with her storied childhood as the third daughter of Richard L. Simon, the cofounder of publishing giant Simon & Schuster; her musical debut as half of The Simon Sisters, performing folk songs with her sister, Lucy, in Greenwich Village; to a meteoric solo career that would result in 13 top 40 hits, including the number-one song "You're So Vain". She was the first artist in history to win a Grammy Award, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award, for her song "Let the River Run" from the movie Working Girl.

The memoir recalls a childhood enriched by music and culture but also one shrouded in secrets that would eventually tear her family apart. Simon brilliantly captures moments of creative inspiration, the sparks of songs, and the stories behind writing "Anticipation" and "We Have No Secrets", among many others. Romantic entanglements with some of the most famous men of the day fueled her confessional lyrics as well as the unraveling of her storybook marriage to James Taylor.

Includes original music composed especially for the program by Carly Simon and Teese Gohl plus a previously unreleased bonus song from Carly Simon.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Carly Simon exuberantly narrates her memoir, which reads like a history of rock and roll from the 1970s onward. Simon's warm and personal style sounds as if she's telling her story directly to each listener." ( AudioFile)

Still trying to decide how I felt about it. On the one hand it was gorgeous. She reads it herself and the audiobook is interlaced with lots and lots of her music throughout. It has to be a completely different experience from reading it with eyes only. In many ways it confirms how sensitive and brilliant she is.

On the other hand it also seems like it was her attempt to come to terms with the fact that she has never come to terms with the failure of her 10ish-year marriage to James Taylor which ended in the early 1980's. Yet she was married again for about 20 more years to someone else, and unless I nodded off toward the end, there's not even a mention of that. There's something disturbing and downright pitiful about how she seems so determinedly stuck in the long-ago.

Gorgeous and Sad

My headline says it all. Very interesting story. Carly's voice sounds great as the narrator. So disappointed the story ends early 80s. Curious to know what she's been doing since then.

Loved it but doesn't go past early 80s!

First I didn't think I would like it. After I got used to Carly's voice and the story became increasingly self revealing I was Drawn in so much so that I wound up binge listening . A sensitive and creative soul has shared much of herself with readers and listeners. A thoughtful and provocative account I would highly recommend.

Warning: Binge listening danger

I just finished listening to Carly Simions memoir “Boys in the trees” on audio book and I thought it was gut punchingly beautiful! I was bowled over by her writing. Her words are wondrous and vivid . Listening to the story told in her own words I felt entranced (besides for the moments @shaunreznik would come interrupt and I’d be forced to take a pause 😑rude)

Her story of her childhood, womenhood, motherhood and marriage(hood😋) is a ripe juicy saga. Her story telling is poetic and I sighed audibly at many a time. It’s also pretty darn sexy. I loved hearing about all her flings and love affairs. The details on her marriage to James Taylor ripped my heart clean out!

I loved this as an audiobook not just because you get to hear Carly read her own story. she has perfect comic timing and there is sound and music infused throughout that just brought the story into a clearer view. I’m sure reading the written book is gorgeous aswell though.

If your looking for something beautiful, well here you go 🤗

Gut punchingly beautiful!

Carly Simon’s and James Taylor’s music are in my DNA, and their music was part of the soundtrack of my life in the 70’s and 80’s. A candid autobiography, with many glimpses into the painful and privileged childhood of Carly, and how her music life came to be. An honest look at how her life and times without and with James wove into her songs. Although we all wanted to be Carly Simon and live that exciting and glamorous rock star life, through her writing she shows us all the messy and painful parts that make her so human, relatable, and a more beautiful person. Highly recommend this book!

A must read for fans of Carly Simon and James Taylor

So many men in Carly's life. aI just has no idea. Great book, I learned a lot about two of my favorite artists; Carly Simon and James Taylor.

Carly Simon is an exceptionally poetic looker upon life.

Thank God she did the narration. She really — really, really — brought the words to life with her own voice: the voice of a storyteller.

The old-shoe tone in her voice makes the experience comforting and haunting.

A soul made for prose.

If you love her music or are just curious about the personal lives of the famous, this is a great "listen ". Hearing it in the author's own voice, plus the addition of her music, made it so much better and more personal. I always knew Simon's songs were autobiographical and I loved learning their back story.

A Must for Every Carly Simon Fan
