No spoilers, just want to speak on the writing & planning of this story.
I don’t write reviews unless I am truly moved by any body of work in the form of books, since books are all I really care about.
This story truly touched my heart & MADE me care about these characters as well as the plot, which isn’t easy to balance as an author. I have never cried over a book before in the same way that I cried for the characters in this one. My heart broke at the torments the bear endured & reached out to the main character when forced into difficult situations. The author does an amazing job at engulfing the reader. The writing wasn’t over exaggerated or flowery, it was simply as it was, which is my favorite style of writing bc it feels closer to this world & made the magic in this book seem like it actually exists. It was genius level creative! Like true childhood imagination but done with intricate thought. Everything in this book was brilliantly planned, written, & executed well. My favorite thing, for example, was the world building. The culture was well developed as well as the magic system & government within the very unique monarchy. It was so consuming that I found myself literally gapping at some moments while audibly screaming at others, needing to pause to have a freak out lol. I would recommend to anyone with a true love for writing, great character development, & very realistic magical worlds.
For me.. it was a great listen & I will buy the physical book so I can share it with others & display it proudly in my collection.

Wow. Jordan Ifueko can BUILD A WORLD. I finished Raybearer several days ago and I feel homesick for Aristar and all its realms. She has created a multitude of distinct cultures so vivid you’d swear they were real... this book packs in the familiar and satisfying themes of belonging, coming of age, and justice but delivers them with dazzling new characters, cultures, customs and magic. It’s all at once lusciously familiar and dazzlingly fresh. In addition- the performance by Joniece Abbott-Pratt is phenomenal. She brings dozens of characters to life with skill and specificity! It’s a delight to listen to. I can’t wait for the next one!

I’m so glad future generations will get to grow up with this book!

This book was incredible. That’s literally all I have to say. I am begging you all to read it. I do not have a single complaint to make and the narrator being so amazing was really just the cherry on top. I never write reviews but just.... read this book.
