Just listening to this made me depressed, and the with detailed descriptions of sex it reminded me of one of, heck i don't know, Penthouse? To be honest, I just couldn't get through much of it.

X-rated with droll content.

This book was great, it had an interesting storyline that simmered, keeping me interested the entire time without going too dark.

Audible really needs to add another attribute to the Sci/Fi genre called, Survivalist. Then I could add another one to filter out before deciding to give it a try. While my disinterest in this genre of novel may rightfully call into question my unbiased rating, there were other problems with it that warranted this rating all on their own. First, while the writing was fine, the protagonists were utterly uninteresting and flawed figures. So much so that, emotionally, I never had a sense of caring if any of them made it.

It seemed that the author felt it necessary to continually point out the stereotypical protagonist whether it be the domineering husband/father, naive hippy-type trophy second wife, raging hormones teenage son, knocked-up daughter, &c. Also, there were several areas where the author uselessly padded sections of the story with a litany of references to cultural touchstones movie references.

I was unable to continue the novel past the 2/3rds point.

Any additional comments?

The authors regularly put the main characters in bad situations but weren't willing to let any of them get hurt or killed. I knew in every situation the characters got in, that they would be fine. Made the story too predictable.
On the other hand, the plot has intrigued me enough that I'll probably keep reading the series.
