Gracie Thompson has a job, a loving family, a twin brother who drives her insane and a great friend. A chance meeting introduces her to the love of her life. But the storm clouds are gathering, Europe is teetering on the verge of war and threatening to destroy everything Gracie holds dear.

I’m a fan of wwii fiction, and this is one of my favorites. The story follows some ordinary folks, struggling to deal with the war… you come to know and love the characters. The author does a beautiful job of describing the various characters thoughts and feelings. You end up wanting to hear more about each of them. The Narrator did a FANTASTIC job

This story is so engaging! I learned so much about London during WWII . I admired the strength of Gracie and Penny, and I'm looking forward to the next book. Penny is a fascinating character!

I thougt the story to thin but the narration was chilling. I never heard that the English language had so many Sses.

I understand this book is fiction. However, if set in a historical period, some modicum of a timeline MUST be followed. These characters know things that they wouldn’t have known, live lives that would have been impossible and have things happen that are not true to history. It was a disturbing read for that reason.
